The Minds workspace

Minds brings four areas together in one workspace: your chats, the Minds, their artifacts and their scheduled tasks. Use this page to move around it, arrange the panels and see where a link takes you. To send messages and read answers, start with Ask a Mind.

Move between the areas

The left panel carries the workspace navigation and your chats. Five items take you around:

The item for the area you are in carries a small dot, and each item's tooltip shows its shortcut. The Minds and Scheduled Tasks items appear only when your role allows them; see Who can do what with Minds.

Switching to another area closes the side panel you had open, but the chat stays open behind the scenes: go to Artifacts and come back, and the conversation is where you left it.

When you have scheduled tasks to see, a tasks area sits above your chat list in the left panel.

Use the panels on a desktop

On a desktop screen the workspace has three columns: the left panel, the chat, and a right panel for Tool History or Artifacts. The right panel is there only while one of the two is open.

Inside Tool History you read the steps behind an answer; see Tool cards and Tool History. Inside the chat's Artifacts panel you find the artifacts that chat produced; see Artifacts.

In a chat's header

What opens over the workspace

A chat can open things over your work: the full view of a step, a workflow, or an artifact. Close the popup and you are back where you were.

Popups that a chat opens close when you leave the Minds area for another page; open them again from the chat when you come back. Dialogs you start from a Mind's page, such as New Mind or Duplicate Mind, stay open while you move to another page.

Use the workspace on a phone

On a phone the chat fills the screen and the navigation moves into the panel: tap the panel button at the top left (tooltip Show panel) to open it and pick an item to move. Picking something closes the panel; there is no bottom bar.

Tool History and Artifacts open full screen over the chat, and drawers such as an approval's details open from the bottom; close them with a swipe down. Some buttons show as icons only on a small screen, and controls that appear on hover need a mouse.

If your browser can install DataMind OS as an app, a banner offers Add Minds to your home screen. with an Install button; see DataMind OS on your phone for the install steps and the rest of the phone experience.

Follow a link into Minds

A link or bookmark that does not name a Mind opens the Mind you used last in this browser, if you can still open it. If that Mind is no longer available to you, the first Mind in your list opens instead; if you have no Minds at all, the page says No Minds Available (see Minds).

A link that names a Mind always opens that Mind, whatever you used last. Links to Artifacts or Scheduled Tasks open those areas directly, even when the link does not name a Mind.

A link can also carry which area to start on (Minds or the chat) and which of a Mind's tabs to open. DataMind OS applies that once and then removes it from the address, so the address you copy afterwards no longer carries it.

While a chat opens, you see Loading chat until it is ready, and the chat list fills in as it loads.

Questions, answered

Does switching to Artifacts or Minds close my open chat?

No. The chat stays open behind the other areas. Switching areas closes the side panel you had open, not the conversation, and the chat is where you left it when you come back.

Can I open Tool History and Artifacts at the same time?

No. The right panel shows one list at a time; opening one closes the other. Press Ctrl+Shift+H for Tool History and Ctrl+Shift+F for Artifacts.

Why are the Tool History and Artifacts buttons missing?

They appear when the chat has something to show in them. A chat with no tool steps or artifacts does not offer them.

My left panel disappeared. How do I get it back?

Click the toggle at the top left of the chat, or press Alt+1. Minds remembers whether you left the panel open or collapsed, also after a reload, so it stays as you set it.

Why did Minds open a Mind I did not expect?

A link or bookmark that does not name a Mind opens the one you used last in this browser, if you can still open it; otherwise the first Mind in your list opens. A link that names a Mind always opens that Mind. Pick another Mind from the list whenever you like; see Find and open a Mind.

Why is New Chat greyed out?

Minds is still loading the Mind. The button becomes active when the chat is ready.

What does Loading chat mean?

Minds is opening a chat: the Mind and its conversation are still loading. The notice clears by itself when they are ready.

What does the Parent label in a chat header mean?

You are in a chat that a swarm agent runs. The label names the conversation that started the agent; click it to open that conversation. See Swarm agents.

Why did the popup I opened from a chat close?

Popups that a chat opens, such as a full step view or a workflow, close when you leave the Minds area for another page. Open them again from the chat when you come back.

Can I link to a Mind's tab, or to an artifact?

Yes. A link into Minds can open a Mind and one of its detail tabs (Settings, AI Config, Sources, Training Hub or Benchmarks), start on the Minds or chat area, or select an artifact. DataMind OS applies that once and then removes it from the address. Links made before the tab names changed still open the right tab.

What changes when I open Minds on a phone?

The chat fills the screen and the navigation moves into the panel, opened from the top-left button. Tool History and Artifacts open full screen, and some buttons show as icons only. See DataMind OS on your phone.
