Use this page to get an answer from a Mind: start a chat, ask your question, and read the answer with the steps the Mind took to reach it. For what a Mind is, see Minds. To set up a Mind, see Create a Mind.
A new chat opens on a greeting that includes your first name: Hi name, how can I help you today? Sending your first message starts the conversation, and the chat is saved in your list from then on.
You can also start a chat from the Dashboard: its Chat view sends your message into Minds as a new chat. See The Dashboard.
A link into Minds can open a specific chat or a Mind's tab directly; see The Minds workspace for the layout and the links. The Mind's own details and its five tabs are in Find and open a Mind.
Under the message box you set the model that answers and the style of the answer. The model picker lists the models the Mind allows.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Sets the model that answers this chat. | The Mind's default model; a new Mind uses Kartlos Premium. |
| Thinking effort | Sets how long the model thinks before it answers, per message. Only models that support it offer levels; where a model has none, the setting reads Not available. | Default, the model's own setting. |
| Response mode | Sets the style of the answer. | Analyzer |
| Response language | Sets the language of the answer. | The language set on the Mind. |
The response modes are:
Press Alt+M to change the response mode; the control is described in The message box and its settings.
A chat keeps the model it started on. A chat started on a Kartlos model stays on that model, and a chat started on another model can move between the other models but cannot switch to Kartlos. When a switch is overridden, the chat shows Model locked for this conversation and the picker returns to the chat's model. To change the model, start a new chat. See Models in a chat.
While the Mind works, each step appears in the answer as a card, such as List Tables, Execute Query, Web Search or Read Webpage, with its status and a short result. Cards, their details and the Tool History panel are described in Tool cards and Tool History.
If the Mind includes Swarm, open + under the message box and switch on the Swarm chip to let the Mind split one message across parallel agents. See Swarm agents.
Click New Chat in the left panel, or press Ctrl+Shift+Q. It opens on the Mind you used last; if that Mind is no longer available to you, the first Mind in your list opens instead. Type your question in Ask anything... and press Enter.
Use Short for quick, concise responses; Analyzer (the default) for detailed analysis; Consultant for a professional consulting approach; and Research for a comprehensive investigation. Press Alt+M, or use the mode control beside the send controls, to change it. See The message box and its settings.
Yes. A chat keeps its own context, so follow-up questions build on what came before. Long chats summarise their older turns to free up room; see Chat states and recovery.
Web search is not included for this Mind, so the chip is not there. A Mind manager turns it on with Web Search on the Mind's AI Config tab. See Choose models and AI behaviour.
A plan holds between 1 and 15 steps; anything outside that range is refused.
When every step is done, the bar folds to all steps done and clears away after your next message. While the plan is still running, the bar stays.
The answer keeps running on the server. When you reopen or reload the chat, it rejoins the running answer and catches up on what you missed; if the answer finished while you were away, it is there when you return.
