The Dashboard

The Dashboard is your home page after you sign in. Use it to ask a Mind a question, open any area of DataMind OS, see how your data flows, and pick up recent conversations.

Switch between the views

The Dashboard has three views. Switch between them with the tabs at the top of the page.

ViewWhat it showsYou see it when you have
ChatA greeting and a message box for a MindView Minds, Add Chat/Message and at least one Mind you can see
PlaygroundCards that open each area, with quick actionsAlways
FlowA diagram of your data, from sources to outputsView Dashboard

Only the views you can use appear, in this order: Chat, Playground, Flow. The Dashboard opens the view you used last in this browser. If that view is no longer available to you, it opens the first view you can use.

You control three settings on the Dashboard:

Ask a Mind from the Dashboard

The Chat view greets you by your first name with Good morning, Good afternoon or Good evening, and asks What would you like to explore today?

  1. In the sidebar, click Dashboard.
  2. If you are not on the Chat view, click Chat in the view switch.
  3. If the message box shows a Mind you do not want, choose another Mind.
  4. Type your question and send it.

The Mind's chat opens with your message. Ask a Mind explains what happens next.

If you have Create Private Chat, a Private / Regular switch sits above the message box. Switch it to Private before you send. A private conversation is visible only to you, not even to administrators. See Chat commands, shortcuts and privacy.

Floating icons move across the background of the Chat view. Point at one to pause it, then click it to put that Mind into the message box for your question. When reduced motion is on for your device, the icons stay still.

Below the message box, the install card offers Install app, or Open app when the app is already installed. See Your profile and preferences for installing DataMind OS as an app.

Start work from the Playground

The Playground view is a map of DataMind OS, under the heading Find your way around.

  1. Click a card, for example Lake, to open that area.
  2. Or click + on a card, then click a quick action, for example Import source.

The map shows only what you can open. The Playground lists every card, its quick actions and where each one takes you.

Read the Flow

The Flow view draws how your data moves: your sources on the left, the platform's figures in the middle and the outputs on the right.

The Flow view explains the whole diagram, what the figures count and what each box opens.

Check the right-hand rail

On wide screens, a rail runs down the right of the Dashboard. It shows the sections your permissions allow:

If none of these sections applies to you, the rail is not shown.

In the Conversations list you can open, rename, star or delete a conversation. Deleting asks Delete conversation? Confirm with Delete.

Warning

Deleting a conversation is permanent. The confirmation says you cannot undo it.

Limits and edge cases

Questions, answered

Why does my Dashboard have no Chat view?

Chat needs View Minds, Add Chat/Message and at least one Mind you can see. Ask your administrator to check your roles. Who can do what with Minds lists what each permission unlocks.

Why is the Flow view missing?

The Flow needs View Dashboard. Your administrator can add it to one of your roles. See Roles and permissions.

Why does the Dashboard open on a different view than I expected?

It opens the view you used last in this browser. If that view is no longer available to you, it opens the first view you can use. In another browser, or after you clear the site data, it opens Chat when you can use it, and Playground when you cannot.

Can I choose what appears on the Dashboard?

No. The views, the figures and the rail sections follow your permissions only. You choose the view, the Mind and the chat visibility, nothing else.

Can I start a private chat from the Dashboard?

Yes, if you have Create Private Chat. Switch Private on above the message box before you send. See Chat commands, shortcuts and privacy.

Why is the Install app button greyed out?

Your browser cannot install DataMind OS. The card says Installation is available in supported browsers. Use a browser that supports installing apps. Your profile and preferences covers installing DataMind OS as an app.

Why is the right-hand rail missing?

The rail shows on wide screens only, and only when at least one of its sections applies to you. The health cards need View Dashboard, scheduled tasks need View Tasks and a Mind you can see, and Conversations needs View Minds and a Mind you can see. On a narrow window, or with none of these, the rail is not shown.

What do the floating icons in the background do?

They are shortcuts. Click one to put that Mind into the message box, then type your question. Point at an icon to pause it. When reduced motion is on for your device, the icons stay still.

I deleted a conversation from the Dashboard by mistake. Can I get it back?

No. Deleting is permanent, and the confirmation says you cannot undo it. Check the title in the Delete conversation? dialog before you confirm with Delete.
