The Playground

The Playground is the Dashboard view that maps the areas of DataMind OS. Use it to open an area, or to start creating with a card's quick actions.

Open the Playground

  1. In the sidebar, click Dashboard.
  2. At the top of the page, click Playground in the view switch.

The map opens under the heading Find your way around. It needs no permission, so every signed-in user sees it. Chat and Flow are the Dashboard's other views: The Dashboard covers the view switch, and The Flow view draws how your data moves through DataMind OS.

The card groups

The map arranges the cards the way your data moves through DataMind OS:

GroupWhat it coversCards
Data pipelineBuild and run the flow that moves your dataLake, Warehouse, Writeback, Workflows
Explore & analyzeDig into your data and turn it into answersEditor, Popups, Slides, DataPrism
Operate & governRun, monitor, and administer the platformAdministration, Observability, Documentation, Lineage

The four Data pipeline cards are numbered 01 to 04, in the order your data travels.

What each card opens

Click a card to open its area. Each card carries a short line about what the area does:

WarehouseShape raw data into clean, modeled tablesNew transformation, New dictionary, New static, New fact, New dimension
WritebackSend curated data back to your source systemsAdd destination
WorkflowsOrchestrate, schedule, and watch your pipelines runAdd workflow

PopupsInspect any table or transformation on the spotNone
SlidesBuild and present decks from your dataNew presentation

Use a quick action

A + on a card reveals its quick actions. Each action opens its area with the create flow ready.

  1. Click + on a card. The card shows its quick actions.
  2. Click an action, for example Import source.

Where an action takes you:

The + appears only on cards with at least one action you can use.

What you see depends on your permissions

The map shows only the cards and quick actions your permissions allow: a card you cannot open is not shown, and a group with no visible cards disappears. Nothing here is configurable.

For example:

The same permissions decide the sidebar. Find your way around explains the sidebar and the account menu, and How DataMind OS fits together lists the permission behind each area.

Questions, answered

Why is a card missing from my Playground?

The map shows only what your permissions allow: a card you cannot open is not shown, and a group with no visible cards disappears. Open Profile from the account menu to check your permissions, or ask your administrator. How DataMind OS fits together lists the permission behind each area.

Where does a quick action take me?

Straight into the create flow of that area. For example, Import source opens Lake with its add-source view, and Add user opens the create user form in Administration. A Warehouse action opens a new popup of that type, named with the next free number, such as Transformation 1.

What does the Popups card do?

It opens the same picker as Open Popups in the sidebar. Search for a table or transformation, then click it. It opens in a popup window over the page you are on. See Open Popups.

Why is there no "+" on some cards?

Two reasons. Editor, Popups, Observability, Documentation and Lineage have no quick actions at all, so they never show +. On the other cards, + appears only when at least one action is allowed for you.

Why does the Dashboard show the Playground when Chat is unavailable?

The Playground needs no permission, so every signed-in user has it. When Chat is not available to you, the Dashboard opens on the first view you can use, which is the Playground. The Dashboard explains which views you see.

Do the cards remember where I left off?

Administration, DataPrism and Slides reopen where you last worked in them, the same way their sidebar entries do. The other cards simply open their area.

What do the numbers on the cards mean?

The numbers 01 to 04 sit on the four Data pipeline cards and mark the order your data travels: Lake, Warehouse, Writeback, Workflows.
