The Flow view

The Flow view is one of the three views of the Dashboard. It draws your data moving through DataMind OS: your sources on the left, the platform's figures in the middle and the places your data goes on the right. How DataMind OS fits together explains each part of that journey.

Open the Flow view

The view needs the View Dashboard permission.

  1. In the sidebar, click Dashboard.
  2. Click Flow in the view switch at the top of the page.

The diagram scales to fit your window.

Note

The connecting lines are decorative. Only the chips, figures and cards carry information.

Sources on the left

Source chips stand for the connections in your Lake. A chip shows one connection by name, or groups a source type with a count.

The platform card

The platform card in the middle shows five boxes of figures.

The outputs on the right

Five cards stand for the places your data goes:

A card that points outside DataMind OS opens in a new tab.

What each box opens

Everything on the diagram is shown to anyone who can open the Flow view. Only the click-through follows your permissions:

What the figures count

Questions, answered

Why does nothing happen when I click a box?

Every chip, box and card is shown to anyone who can open the Flow view. Clicking one needs its own permission, listed in the table above. Without it, the box is shown but does nothing.

Why can I not open a source chip?

Opening a chip needs View Lake Objects. Without it, the chips still show what is connected, but they do not respond to clicks.

Why do several connections share one chip?

The diagram groups connections by source type, and the chip carries the count. When there is room, a type with several connections splits into one chip per connection. Hover over or focus a grouped chip to list its connections, then click one.

Why can I not see all of my sources?

The diagram shows up to 16 source slots. When you have more connections, the last slot becomes a +N more chip that counts the rest. Open Lake to see every connection.

Why do the figures here differ from Observability?

The Lake and Warehouse figures count your data only. The platform's working and temporary tables are not included, so they read smaller than the storage figures under Observability > ClickHouse > Storage. The user figures also exclude the platform's built-in default account. See ClickHouse storage for the Observability side.

Why does a figure show a dash?

A dash means the platform has no value to show for that figure yet.

How often do the figures refresh?

The figures refresh on their own, about every 30 seconds. You do not need to reload the page.

Do the connecting lines mean anything?

No. The connecting lines are decorative. Only the chips, figures and cards carry information.

Can I use the keyboard on this view?

Yes. Focus a figure box or a card and press Enter or Space to open it. Focus a source chip to see its connection list.
