DataPrism is the reporting area of DataMind OS. Use it to model your Lake and Warehouse tables once, then build, share, export and schedule interactive reports on top of them.
Data flows through DataPrism in four steps:
Charts run against live data each time you open a report. A saved version keeps the layout, not the numbers.
Start with From a table to a shared report, or read Concepts and glossary for the terms.
DataPrism screens carry the DataPrism label in their panel headers.
You see the DataPrism entry in the sidebar if you hold View DataPrism Reports or View DataPrism Semantic Models.
DataPrism is built for desktop screens. On a phone, DataPrism pages redirect to Minds.
The home page has four tabs:
| Tab | What it shows | You see it when |
|---|---|---|
| Reports | Reports only. This is the tab the home page opens on. | Always |
| Models | Semantic models only | Always |
| Subscriptions | Email subscriptions | You can create subscriptions, or see other people's subscriptions |
| Visuals | The custom visual library | Custom visuals are enabled on your DataMind OS, and you can view or edit reports or author or publish custom visuals |
Items are grouped into three bands: Recents, My reports and Shared with me. Shared with me also lists everything in the role workspaces you hold.
Use the Cards or Table toggle to change how items are listed; until you pick a view, up to 10 items show as cards and more show as a table. An item you can open but not change shows a View only marker.
Options you are not allowed to create do not appear. Workspaces, folders and the home page covers folders in detail.
Open a semantic model to see its tabs:
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Diagram | The relationships between its BI tables |
| Preview | Its BI tables, and a first look at their data. Needs at least one BI table. |
| Dependencies | The reports that use the model. Needs at least one report. |
| Docs | The model's documentation |
| Health | Findings across measures, tables and relationships |
| Row-level security | The groups that limit which rows each viewer sees |
| History | The change history of the model |
Health, Row-level security and History appear only if you can edit the semantic model. Docs is open to everyone who can open the model. A tab that is waiting for something, such as Preview before the first BI table, is greyed out and explains itself when you point to it. A link to a tab you may not open falls back to the Diagram tab.
The Docs and Health tabs are covered in Check, document and trace a model. The model's header also shows its owner role and data mode, both locked at creation; Concepts and glossary explains what they mean.
The same side panels stay with you across DataPrism: Filters, Visualizations, BI tables and Model AI. A panel folds from its header and comes back as a rail you click. Model AI can read and change the model; Model AI explains how you approve its changes.
What you reach depends on two things: your permissions, and where an item lives.
For the full list of permissions, see Who can do what in DataPrism. For folders and where items live, see Workspaces, folders and the home page.
If a message in DataPrism is unclear, check Troubleshooting.
You need View DataPrism Reports or View DataPrism Semantic Models in one of your roles. Ask your administrator to check your roles. See Who can do what in DataPrism.
No. On a phone, DataPrism pages redirect to Minds. Open DataPrism on a desktop screen.
A semantic model holds the tables, relationships and measures once. A report is pages of visuals built on one semantic model, so several reports can use the same model and its measures. Concepts and glossary lists the other terms.
On the home page, in Shared with me. The same section also lists everything in the role workspaces you hold.
The role whose Lake and Warehouse tables the model queries has been deleted, so its queries fail. The owner role cannot be changed after creation. Create a new semantic model under a role that is still active.
It appears on the home page only when custom visuals are enabled on your DataMind OS and you can view or edit reports, or author or publish custom visuals. If you cannot see it, ask your administrator. See Custom visuals and the visual library.
To the DataPrism page you visited last, for example the report you were working on. After a page reload, the entry opens the DataPrism home page.
Preview and Row-level security need at least one BI table, and Dependencies needs at least one report; a greyed-out tab explains itself when you point to it. Health, Row-level security and History appear only if you can edit the model, and Docs is open to everyone who can open the model. A link to a tab you may not open falls back to the Diagram tab.
