Find your way around

The sidebar on the left takes you to every area of DataMind OS that your role lets you open. Use this page when you cannot find an item, want to open a table from any page, or need more room on the screen.

Use the sidebar

The sidebar shows its areas in four groups, separated by thin lines:

Some items show a small BETA or SOON badge next to the name.

Click an item to open it. Four items return you to where you left off:

An open Minds conversation, a DataPrism report and a Slides deck keep their state while you browse: go to another page, come back, and they are as you left them.

The DataMind OS logo at the top of the sidebar opens the Dashboard.

BI opens in a new browser tab.

Note

The sidebar does not show locked items. An area your role does not allow is missing from the list.

Make more room on the screen

  1. Click the round arrow on the right edge of the sidebar, near the top. The sidebar narrows to icons.
  2. Point at an icon to see its name.
  3. Click the arrow again to show the names.

When the sidebar is narrow, the arrow appears only while you point at the sidebar. DataMind OS remembers your choice in this browser, so the sidebar opens the way you left it.

Press Ctrl/⌘+B at any time to show or hide the sidebar. Keyboard shortcuts lists this key and the others that work anywhere.

If the window is too short for every item, the items that do not fit move into More at the bottom of the list. Click More to open them. A small dot on More shows that the page you are on is one of them.

Open a table or transformation from any page

Open Popups sits at the bottom of the sidebar. It appears only if you can read or change Lake tables.

  1. Press Alt+Q, or click Open Popups.
  2. Type part of the name in the search box.
  3. Click the table or transformation. It opens in a popup window over the current page.

The picker lists Warehouse tables, Lake tables and transformations in separate columns. Press Alt+Q again to close it.

Open Popups explains the picker in full, and Popup windows explains how the floating windows behave.

Use the account menu

Your photo or initials, name and email sit at the bottom of the sidebar. Click them to open the account menu. With the sidebar narrowed, the header shows your name, along with a Password locked badge if password sign-in is locked for your account. The menu closes when you pick an item; a dialog it opens, such as Profile, stays open until you close it.

Universe, Documentation and BI

Every signed-in user sees these three items.

When an item is missing

The sidebar shows only the areas your roles allow. If a group has no items you can open, its line disappears too.

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then click Profile.
  2. Check the permissions listed there.
  3. If you need an area that is missing, ask your administrator to give one of your roles the permission for it. How DataMind OS fits together lists the permission behind each sidebar item.

On a phone

On a phone (a screen narrower than 768 px), only Minds opens, along with shared DataMind Oda conversations. Any other link takes you to Minds.

The Menu panel at the bottom groups the areas you can open under Navigation, Data and Support. Minds, Editor, DataPrism and Slides are not among its items.

Printing a page, or exporting it to PDF, is exempt from the redirect, so a print preview does not send you to Minds.

Inside Minds, the Sources, Training Hub and Benchmarks tabs do not appear on a phone. Use a computer to work in them. For everything else that changes on a phone, see DataMind OS on your phone.

When a page does not open

Access Denied appears when your role does not allow a page. The message reads Sorry, you don't have permission to access this page. Please sign in or contact your administrator. On a computer, click Go Back to return. Click Sign In to sign out and sign in as someone else.

Page not found appears when the address does not exist. Click Go Back or Home to open the home page. On a phone, Go to Minds also appears.

Something went wrong appears when a page fails to load. Click Try Again to load the page again, Go Back to return to the previous page, or Home to open the home page. Click View error details to see the error text. The page ends with If this problem persists, please contact support.

Questions, answered

Why can I not see an item that a colleague has?

The sidebar shows only the areas your roles allow. Open Profile from the account menu to check your permissions. If you need more, ask your administrator. See How access works.

Where did Lineage go? I only see More.

Your window is too short to show every item. Click More to open the items that do not fit.

How do I open a table without leaving my page?

Press Alt+Q, search for the table and click it. It opens as a popup over the page. Open Popups appears only if you can read or change Lake tables.

Why did a link on my phone take me to Minds?

On a phone, only Minds opens, so every other page redirects there. Open the link on a computer. See DataMind OS on your phone.

What does Access Denied mean?

Your role does not allow that page. Click Go Back, or ask your administrator for the permission you need.

Why does Admin open a different section each time?

It reopens the Administration section you used last, if you still have access to it. Otherwise it opens the first section you can use.

Where are the integrations, such as Excel and Power BI?

On the Universe page, in the tiles for connecting your tools. See Integrations.

Why does Minds or DataPrism open a page I did not expect?

They reopen the page you last visited in them, until you reload the page. After a reload, they open their home page.

Can I change the language of the interface?

No. DataMind OS is in English and has no language setting.

What does Something went wrong mean?

An unexpected error stopped the page from loading. Click Try Again. If it keeps happening, contact support.

Is my open chat still there when I come back?

Yes. An open Minds conversation, a DataPrism report and a Slides deck keep their state while you move around DataMind OS, so you come back to what you left.

Does the sidebar remember that I collapsed it?

Yes, in this browser. DataMind OS keeps your choice, so the sidebar opens the way you left it.
