Every table in the console can be narrowed the same way: sort it by a column, filter columns down to
the values or conditions you need, and search across it for text. This page covers those controls.
The table around them is described on Tables overview, the controls
above it on The table toolbar, and the cells themselves on
Table cells and editing.
Sort a table
Click a column header. The first click sorts the column ascending, the second flips it to
descending, and a third click removes the sort.
Or open the column menu, the small button at the right of the header, and click
Sort ascending or Sort descending to sort by that column.
To sort by a second column, hold Shift and click its header; some tables also accept Ctrl/Cmd.
The rows are sorted by the first column, then by the second, and each sorted header shows its
place in the order as a small number.
Empty values always come last, whichever direction you sort. Text sorts alphabetically, ignoring
case, numbers keep their exact numeric order, and in a Yes/No column No comes before Yes.
To remove every sort, open any column menu and click Clear all sort.
Filter a column by its values
Open the column menu. The values found in the column appear under its actions. Whether the
filter icons show on every header or only on hover is set by Filter visibility
(Table preferences and drafts).
Tick the values to keep, or use Select all to tick every value the list shows.
To find a value in a long list, type in the Search… box. The count beside Select all,
such as 3 / 12, says how many of the listed values are ticked.
Click Apply. The rows change only when you apply; Apply stays greyed out until you change
something, and Cancel (or Escape) discards your changes.
Notes on the value list:
A count beside a value, where the table provides one, says how many rows hold it once the filters
you already set are taken into account.
A cell with no value at all appears as (Empty), and a value that is empty or only spaces
appears as (Blank). These choices come first; the rest follow in alphabetical order.
Values you tick move to the top of the list where the table keeps them there.
If your search finds nothing, the list shows No options found.
If more values can load, the list offers Load more; while they load it reads Loading…, and
when the menu cannot load anything further it reads Cannot load more.
A menu shows at most 500 values at once; see the questions below.
Tip
Long lists are cut short, so use the menu's Search… box to narrow them. Select all then
ticks everything your search found, not the whole column.
Filter by a condition
Number, date and text columns also take a condition. Open the column menu, choose Number filter,
Date filter or String filter, and pick an operator. A dialog opens; enter the value and
click Apply.
Column
Operators
Number
Equals, Does not equal, Greater than, Greater than or equal to, Less than, Less than or equal to, Between, Custom…
Text
Starts with, Ends with, Contains, Doesn't contain
Date
After, Before
Between keeps the rows from the first value to the second, both included.
Custom… combines two conditions with And or Or; choose Single to use one condition
only.
Apply stays greyed out until the condition is complete, and Clear, shown while a condition
is set, removes it.
A number box shows e.g. 1000 and has small buttons that step the value up or down; a text box
shows Enter value; a date box shows Select date until you pick one.
The date box opens a Date Slicer calendar with a Time toggle and Cancel and Apply
actions. You cannot pick a date past today, and picking a day keeps the time of day you had set.
Ticked values and a condition on the same column both apply: a row must pass both.
Filter dates
Open a date column's menu. List shows the dates as tickable values: tick the days you want
and click Apply. Hierarchy shows them as a year, month and day tree and applies as you
tick.
In Hierarchy, open a year, then a month, and tick a day. Ticking a year or a month takes
every date inside it, each year and month shows how many dates it holds, and the years read
newest first. Switching between List and Hierarchy clears the dates you had picked.
Blank dates appear as (Empty).
Some date menus also offer ready-made ranges: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days,
Last 14 days, Last 30 days, This Week, Last Week, This Month or
Last Month. A picked range covers the whole of its last day.
Filter a number range
Some number columns filter by a range instead of a list.
Open the column menu. Under Range, a slider with two handles appears; drag a handle to set an
end of the range.
Let go. The filter applies when you release a handle, not while you drag.
To remove the filter, click Clear, or drag the handles until they cover every value.
The ends of the range show above the slider, separated by the word to, such as 30s or
1m 30s. The handles stop before they cross, so the range always keeps a small gap.
Search the table
Type in the Search... box in the toolbar. The table keeps only the rows where a visible column
contains your text, and matching text is highlighted in the cells. Click Clear search, the X in
the box, to empty it.
Matching ignores case, and part of a word is enough. In lists that rank their matches, an exact
match comes first, then values that start with your text, then values that contain it.
A date also matches in its displayed form, and a cell holding several values matches on any of
them.
The search covers every row the table holds, not only the page on screen. On tables that read
from the platform, such as the Request log, the search, the filters, the sorting and the
export cover the whole billing window (Request log).
Like a sort or a filter change, a new search returns the table to its first page and clears the
selection (Tables overview).
What filters and the search work on
Filters, sorts, the search and the value lists all work on the values a row displays. A column
that shows a masked label, such as EU Provider or Global Provider on the Request log, is
filtered by that label; the value behind the label is out of reach of the table.
Empty cells have their own choices, (Empty) and (Blank). A filter that keeps values never
drops empty cells; a filter that excludes values keeps rows whose cells are empty unless you
exclude the empty choice as well.
A filter covers every row the table holds, not only the rows of the current page.
On tables that read their rows from the platform, one request carries up to 50 column filters and
up to 5 sorts.
Clear filters and sorts
To clear one column, open its column menu and click Clear filter.
To clear everything, click Clear all filters in the toolbar; it clears every column filter and
the search box together, and its tooltip counts what it will clear
(The table toolbar).
To clear the sorts, open any column menu and click Clear all sort.
A column's menu button shows its state: an arrow when the column is sorted, a filter mark when it
is filtered, and a small number when several sorts are in play. The menu also offers Hide column
where the column allows it, and Copy column name to put the column's name on your clipboard for
a query; Column name copied appears, or Copy failed when the copy does not go through.
Questions, answered
How do I sort a table by a column?
Click its header: the first click sorts ascending, the second descending, and a third click removes
the sort. The column menu offers the same actions as Sort ascending and Sort descending.
Empty values always come last, whichever direction you sort.
How do I sort by several columns at once?
Hold Shift and click the next column's header; the rows sort by the first column, then by the
second. Some tables also accept Ctrl/Cmd for this. When more than one column is sorted, each sorted
header shows its place in the order as a small number.
How do I remove a sort?
Click the column's header until the sort clears, or open any column menu and
click Clear all sort to remove every sort at once.
How do I filter a column down to certain values?
Open the column menu and tick the values to keep; Select all ticks everything the list shows.
Click Apply to see the rows change; Cancel or Escape discards your changes.
What do (Empty) and (Blank) mean in a filter list?
(Empty) stands for a cell that holds no value at all, and (Blank) for a value that is empty or
only spaces. They are choices like any other, and both come first in the list.
What does the number next to a filter value mean?
It counts the rows that hold that value once the filters you already set are taken into account, so
the lists narrow as you filter other columns. Where a table offers no counts, the values appear
plain.
Why does a filter list stop at 500 values?
The menu shows up to 500 values at once and tells you, for example
Showing 500 of {total}. Use search to narrow results. Type in the menu's Search… box to reach
the rest. Load more brings in further values where the table offers it, and a Max limit hint
appears once the menu has loaded as many values as it can.
Are filter changes applied straight away?
Value lists and the flat date list wait: nothing changes until you click Apply, and Cancel
or Escape discards your picks. The Hierarchy tree and the number Range slider apply as soon
as you tick or release a handle.
Which quick date ranges can I pick?
Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 14 days, Last 30 days, This Week,
Last Week, This Month and Last Month. A picked range covers the whole of its last day,
and in a condition panel you cannot pick a date past today.
How does the table search work?
It keeps the rows where a visible column contains your text, ignoring case, and highlights the
matching text; part of a word is enough. The search covers all pages, and on tables that read from
the platform it covers the whole billing window. Click Clear search to empty it.
Can I filter by a value the table does not show?
No. Filters, sorts and the search work on the values the rows display. Where a column shows a masked
label, such as EU Provider or Global Provider, you filter by that label, and the hidden
value stays out of reach.
What does an Unknown column message mean?
A filter or sort named a column the platform no longer recognises for that table, so it refused the
request and quotes the column, for example Unknown column 'modelUsed'. Clear the table's filters
and set them again.
