Tables across the console share one toolbar, and the toolbar carries the controls that move data in and out of a table: export, copy and upload. This page covers the formats you can download, what a download contains, the limits you can hit, and how to copy a table or send a file to it. The rest of the toolbar is described on The table toolbar.
| Format | What it produces |
|---|---|
| CSV | Comma-separated values. |
| Excel | Microsoft Excel workbook. |
| JSON | JavaScript Object Notation. |
| TSV | Tab-separated values. |
A download covers every row matching the current filters and the search, not only the rows on screen, and the columns appear in on-screen order. The format you pick is saved as your export preference, so the control opens with it next time (see Table preferences and drafts).
The file goes to your browser's downloads. If there is nothing to download, the console reports
Nothing to export with No data to export.; if a download fails, it reports Export failed with
the reason.
To download everything a table holds, clear its filters and the search first.
=, +, -, @, a tab or a
carriage return is written with an apostrophe in front. That stops a value such as =1+1 from
running as a formula in a spreadsheet app; apps read the apostrophe as a text marker, and the
value stays text. Some tables, including the Request log, export through the server rather than building the file in your browser. Choose CSV or Excel and the platform builds the file and streams it to your browser's downloads. The log itself is described on Request log.
One export at a time: while your export runs, starting another reports
An export is already running.
The download link works once and lasts 60 seconds from the moment you start the export. If it
lapses, run the export again: the console reports This download link has expired or was already used.
Row limits: an Excel export holds at most 1,048,575 rows, Excel's own sheet limit minus the header row, and a CSV export holds up to 5,000,000 rows. The row count is checked when the export starts, so an oversized export is refused before anything is built:
This export has {rows} rows - more than Excel's limit of 1,048,575. Download it as CSV instead, or narrow the filters. This export has {rows} rows - more than the 5,000,000-row export limit. Narrow the filters or pick a shorter period. The download follows the filters you set, in on-screen column order. Dates are written in your browser's time zone, and date column headers name that zone.
The file is complete on its own: the Excel workbook holds a single sheet, named Data, and CSV
files are written as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark and CRLF line endings, so they open correctly in
spreadsheet apps.
The toolbar's copy control puts the table on the clipboard as text, column headers included. Its tooltip names the text format it uses, for example Copy to clipboard (TSV) or Copy to clipboard (CSV); after a successful copy it briefly reads Copied!
If the table has nothing to copy, the action does nothing. If a copy fails, the console reports
Copy failed with Failed to copy to clipboard.
Some tables accept a file through Upload, which hands an Excel file to the table. Upload works
with Excel files only: the control is available while Excel is the preferred file format, and
with another format chosen its tooltip reads Upload is only available for Excel format.
The file can be up to 10 MB; a larger one is refused with File too large and
File size exceeds 10MB limit.
Most tables offer all four formats: CSV, Excel, JSON and TSV. The Request log exports as CSV or Excel only (Request log).
It marks the value as text. A value that starts with =, +, -, @, a tab or a carriage return
could run as a formula in a spreadsheet app; the apostrophe stops that, and the app reads the value
as plain text.
Excel allows at most 31 characters in a worksheet name, so a longer name is cut to fit.
Exports built by the server, such as the Request log export, run one at a time per person. While
one is running, the console reports An export is already running. Start your next export when the current one finishes.
Start the export again. The link works once and lasts 60 seconds from when you start the export, so
it can lapse before the download begins; the console then reports This download link has expired or was already used.
Excel exports top out at 1,048,575 rows (Excel's own limit minus the header row) and CSV exports at 5,000,000 rows. The row count is checked when the export starts. A refusal asks you to narrow the filters, pick a shorter period, or download CSV instead.
The table's rows with their column headers, as text. The tooltip names the text format, Copy to clipboard (TSV) or Copy to clipboard (CSV), and it briefly reads Copied! after a successful copy.
An empty table has nothing to copy, so the action does nothing. When the copy does not go through,
the console reports Copy failed with Failed to copy to clipboard.; try it again.
Upload works with Excel files only. The control is available while Excel is the preferred file
format; with another format chosen, its tooltip reads Upload is only available for Excel format.
Pick Excel in the format selector to enable it.
10 MB per file. A larger file is refused with File too large and File size exceeds 10MB limit.
No. The Request log exports as CSV or Excel only; the JSON and TSV formats belong to tables that build the file in your browser (Request log).
