Warehouse workspace tour

The Warehouse screen shows your tables, transformations and groups as a tree on the left and a main area on the right. Use this page to find your way around the screen, the tree and its toolbar.

Find your way around the screen

The left panel is the tree, headed Warehouse. Drag the edge between the panels to resize it: the tree is at least 350 pixels wide, opens at 474 pixels by default, and never takes more than half your window. Your width is remembered in this browser. To hide the tree, click Hide panel or press Alt+1; while it is hidden, a Show panel button appears in the header on the right.

The header on the right has four buttons:

In the sidebar, Warehouse sits in the data group, next to Lake, WriteBack and Lineage. It appears with View Warehouse Objects or Add/Modify Warehouse Objects, but the tree loads only with View Warehouse Objects.

Each object opens in a floating popup with Refresh, Minimize, Maximize (or Restore) and Close buttons. The popup limit is explained on Warehouse.

What the tree shows

The tree comes from the server for your account and groups your objects:

Placeholder rows collect objects that are missing a group:

When you scroll, the header of the group you are inside stays pinned at the top. While the tree loads, it shows Loading menu.

Creating an object, deploying a table or deleting an object updates the tree as you work; to reload the list from the server at any time, click Refresh in the toolbar. Switching views and building your own are covered in Saved views and configurations.

Use the tree toolbar

The toolbar sits above the tree. Its buttons are greyed out until the tree has loaded.

ButtonWhat it does
NewOpens the add menu. Its tooltip reads Add new.
RefreshReloads the tree from the server and shows the message Data refreshed.
DeleteDeletes the selected rows. It stays greyed out until you select something. See Delete Warehouse objects.
Batch SelectShows checkboxes on the rows, so you can select several at once.
Batch EditOpens Batch edit for the Warehouse.
Expand and collapseOpens or closes every group in the tree.
Saved viewsOne button per saved view. The current view is pressed.
ConfigureOpens Create Configuration, where you build your own view.

The New menu lists Semantic source and Logical model, then Transformation, Dimension, Fact, Dictionary, Static and View. Each item opens its creation popup. Create Warehouse objects lists every entry point.

Search and filter the tree

Type in the Search warehouse... box to find any object by name; results are grouped by type, and clicking one jumps to it in the tree. Filter narrows the tree by Type, Model, Source or Transforms. Search and filter the tree covers the result limit, every filter category and how filters combine.

Saved views

Saved views are the tree layouts you switch between. Click Configure in the toolbar to build your own: name it, then drag levels such as Logical Model and Table Type into the order you want, and save it as a bookmark. Saved views and configurations walks through loading, updating and deleting views.

Note

Saved views belong to your own user account. Colleagues cannot see them.

Right-click menus and shortcuts

Right-click a row for its actions: Add Transformation, Duplicate Transformation, Copy Name, Deploy on an undeployed table, or Delete. Right-click menus describes the menu on each kind of row and when an action is available.

Double-click a table or transformation row, or press Enter on it, to open its editor. A single click only selects the row; click the chevron on a row to open or close its children.

The shortcuts below work while a tree row has focus. On a Mac, ⌘ replaces Ctrl.

Duplicate TransformationAlt+C
Batch Edit (on a group row)Ctrl+Shift+E

What the row badges mean

Open a view or a table from a link

The page address records which view you are on, as view=dashboard, view=diagram, view=workflow or view=addNew. Open such a link to land on that view. When you open the Warehouse without one, the view you used last opens; Add New is never the remembered one, so the next visit returns to your last Dashboard, Relationship Diagram or Workflow Diagram.

A link to a table opens its popup: /warehouse?openTable=true&tableId=<id>&tableName=<name>&tableType=<type>. The popup opens a moment after the page loads, and the four parameters are removed from the address. In tableType, use the object's kind, such as dimension, fact, dictionary, static, view or transformation.

Who can do what

The buttons and menu items stay visible without the permission. When you use one, the action is refused, and the message names the permission you need. The full list and the presets are on Warehouse permissions and row-level security.

Questions, answered

Why does a table show Pending?

The table is not deployed yet. Deploy it from its right-click menu, or open the table and deploy it from its popup. Deploy, run, truncate and monitor tables covers what deploying does.

What does Skipped next to a transformation mean?

The transformation is finalized, but its schedule is off, so workflow runs skip it. Turn the schedule on when you want it to run. See Build, test and finalize a transformation.

Where do tables without a logical model appear?

In the tree, under Ungrouped Tables. On the Dashboard, in the Logical models grouping, they appear under Unassigned.

How do I hide the left panel?

Click Hide panel in the tree header, or press Alt+1. While the tree is hidden, click Show panel in the header on the right to bring it back.

Can I change the width of the tree panel?

Drag the edge between the panels. The tree is at least 350 pixels wide and can take up to half your window; it opens at 474 pixels by default. Your last width is remembered in this browser.

Do I need to refresh to see my changes?

Usually no: creating an object, deploying a table or deleting an object updates the tree as you work. Click Refresh in the toolbar to reload the whole list from the server; when it finishes, Data refreshed appears.

Can I send a link that opens a specific table?

Yes. Use openTable=true with the table's id, name and type, for example /warehouse?openTable=true&tableId=42&tableName=Sales&tableType=fact. The popup opens a moment after the page loads, and the parameters are removed from the address.

Can I link to a specific view?

Yes. The address records the view as view=dashboard, view=diagram, view=workflow or view=addNew; open such a link to land on that view. Add New is never saved as your last view.

Why does the first click on a table not open it?

A single click only selects the row. Double-click the row, or press Enter on it, to open its editor. Click the chevron on a row to open or close its children.

Does the tree remember which groups I expanded?

Yes. The groups you open stay open while you work, and the tree reopens the way you left it. This is kept in your browser, not saved to your account.
