A saved view is a stored layout of the Warehouse tree: the levels your objects nest under, and the order they appear in. The interface also calls saved views bookmarks. Switch between them to change how the tree groups your objects, and build your own when the built-in layouts do not fit your work.
Switch between saved views
The tree toolbar has one button per saved view, named after the view, and the current view stays pressed. The buttons stay greyed out until the tree has loaded; the Warehouse workspace tour shows the whole toolbar.
Basic View groups by Logical Model, then Table Type.
Source Chain groups by Semantic Source, then Source System. Its button shows a link icon; the other buttons show the bookmark icon.
Your last view is remembered for your account, so the tree opens with the view you used last. Until you switch, that is Basic View.
Note
Saved views belong to your user account. Colleagues cannot see them.
The built-in views
Basic View and Source Chain are built in and always available.
Their cards in Create Configuration carry the Built-in badge and a star icon; your own views show the bookmark icon.
They open read-only: you can load them, but you cannot drag their objects.
They cannot be deleted or changed. Deleting one is refused with Cannot Delete ("Predefined configurations cannot be deleted"), and changing one with Cannot Update ("Predefined configurations cannot be updated").
Build your own view
Click Configure in the tree toolbar. The Create Configuration dialog opens, with your saved views listed on the left.
Click Add in that list to start a new configuration. A card appears with its name field open; type a name, or leave it and the view is saved with the next free number, such as Configuration 3. Until you type, the field shows New Bookmark.
Drag the object types you want from Available Objects to Selected Objects: Logical Model, Table Type, Semantic Source and Source System. The order you arrange them in sets the order of the levels in the tree. With a keyboard, focus a card and use the arrow keys to move it between the columns.
Watch Structure Preview. It shows the levels you selected and ends with the rows Table and Transformations. While nothing is selected, it reads "Please select at least one object".
Click Save as Bookmark. A confirmation appears when the view is saved, such as Configuration Saved ("Your selection has been saved successfully"); a new entry in the list is confirmed with Bookmark Saved ("Configuration has been added to bookmarks"). The view then gets its own button in the tree toolbar.
Close the dialog with Cancel when you are done. If you have unsaved changes, it asks before it closes; the prompts are listed below. Saving with nothing selected is refused with Error ("Please select at least 1 object").
Load a saved view
Click the view's button in the tree toolbar to switch to it. You can also open Configure, select the view in the list of saved views, and click Load Bookmark; it stays greyed out unless you have no unsaved changes, at least one object is selected, and the view is not the one already loaded.
If a view cannot be loaded, you see Cannot Load Configuration: "Please save your configuration with a name and at least one selected object before loading it". Loading also asks first when your current configuration has unsaved changes; see below.
Update, rename or delete a view
Update Bookmark saves the changes you made in the dialog back onto your own view. It stays greyed out unless your own view is selected, the configuration has unsaved changes, and at least one object is selected. The confirmation is Configuration Updated ("The configuration has been updated successfully").
To rename a view, point at its card in the list and click the pencil. Names must be unique, ignoring case: a duplicate is refused with Duplicate Name ("A bookmark with this name already exists"), and an empty name with Invalid Name ("Bookmark name cannot be empty"). A successful rename shows Name Updated ("Bookmark name has been updated successfully").
To delete a view, point at its card and click the trash icon. A view that is not active is removed immediately and shows Configuration Deleted ("The configuration has been removed from bookmarks"). Deleting the view you are using asks first; see below.
Built-in views show no pencil and no trash icon.
What the confirmations mean
Closing the dialog or switching views with unsaved changes shows Unsaved Changes: "You have unsaved changes in your configuration. Would you like to save these changes before continuing?" If you continue, your changes are discarded, and the view you picked loads. Save your configuration first if you want to keep them.
Switching away from a new configuration that has no selected objects shows Discard Temporary Configuration?: "You have not selected any objects in your new configuration. If you continue, your changes will be lost. Continue?" Continuing discards the new configuration, confirmed with Temporary Configuration Discarded ("Your temporary configuration has been discarded").
Deleting the view you are using shows Delete Active Configuration: "You are about to delete the currently loaded configuration. This will switch to Basic View. Are you sure you want to continue?" If you continue, the view is deleted and the Warehouse switches to Basic View.
What is the difference between a saved view and a configuration?
They are the same thing. You build a tree layout in the Create Configuration dialog, and each saved layout is listed as a bookmark.
What are Basic View and Source Chain?
The two built-in views. Basic View groups by Logical Model, then Table Type. Source Chain groups by Semantic Source, then Source System.
Why can't I delete or rename a built-in view?
Built-in views are protected. Deleting one is refused with Cannot Delete ("Predefined configurations cannot be deleted"), and changing one with Cannot Update ("Predefined configurations cannot be updated"). Build your own view instead.
Why is Load Bookmark greyed out?
It needs all three at once: no unsaved changes in the dialog, at least one object selected, and a view that is not already loaded.
What is the difference between Update Bookmark and Save as Bookmark?
Update Bookmark saves your changes back onto your own view. Save as Bookmark keeps the current configuration as a new bookmark in the list.
Why is the Add button greyed out?
A new configuration is already open and not saved. Save it as a bookmark, or switch to another view to discard it, and Add becomes available again.
Why did my new configuration disappear?
A new configuration is temporary until you save it. Switching to another view discards it, after the Discard Temporary Configuration? prompt when nothing is selected. Click Save as Bookmark to keep it.
What happens to my changes when I switch views without saving?
You see the Unsaved Changes prompt. If you continue, your changes are discarded and the view you picked loads. Save your configuration first if you want to keep the changes.
What happens if I delete the view I am using?
You are asked first with Delete Active Configuration. If you continue, the view is deleted and the Warehouse switches to Basic View.
Can my colleagues see my saved views?
No. Saved views belong to your user account; only you see them.
What does "Please select at least one object" mean?
It is the empty state of Structure Preview: the preview has nothing to show until you move at least one object into Selected Objects. Saving with nothing selected is refused with Error ("Please select at least 1 object").
