Search and filter the tree

The Warehouse tree can grow large. The Search warehouse... box finds any object by name and jumps to it in the tree, and Filter narrows the tree by table type, logical model, semantic source, or whether a table has transformations. Both sit in the tree panel; the Warehouse workspace tour covers the rest of the screen.

Search the tree

  1. Click the box marked Search warehouse..., beside Filter in the tree panel.
  2. Type what you are looking for. The result list opens as you type, and opens again when you click the box while your text is still there.
  3. Click a result to go to it. The tree expands the collapsed groups, scrolls to the object and highlights it briefly, and the box clears.

Results are grouped by object type: Tables, Transformations, Views, Dictionaries, Statics, Table Types and Semantic Sources. Each result shows the path of its parents under its name. Search checks the name shown in the tree, ignores case, and covers the whole tree, not only the rows you have expanded. The list is ordered by object type, then by name.

The list shows at most 50 results. The count beside the box shows how many matches it found; at the limit it reads 50+ and the list ends with Showing first 50 results. Type more to narrow the list. If nothing matches, the list shows No results for followed by your text. The X in the box clears the search.

Filter the tree

  1. Click Filter, beside the search box. The pane opens next to the tree panel, with the categories Type, Model, Source and Transforms.
  2. Pick any combination. Every click applies at once, and the pane stays open while you choose; click a chosen option again to remove it.
  3. Click Reset in the pane to clear every filter. While a filter is on, a small Reset beside Filter clears everything without opening the pane.
CategoryWhat it lists
TypeThe table types in your tree, such as Dimension, Fact, View, Dictionary and Static.
ModelYour logical models.
SourceYour semantic sources.
TransformsOne option: Has transformations.

Logical models and semantic sources are created and managed on Semantic sources, source systems and logical models.

Filters narrow the tree. A table stays when it matches every category you set, and a table that stays keeps its transformation rows. A group stays only while something inside it matches. When nothing matches, the tree shows No items to display. A category with nothing to pick says so: No types, No models or No sources.

The pane has a Search filters... box that narrows the options of the category you are in. Your filters stay set while you work; they are kept for the session, so a reload does not lose them.

Questions, answered

I clicked a search result and nothing happened. Why?

This happens when your filters hide the result. Search covers the whole tree, even rows the active filters leave out, and the tree can only jump to a row it shows. Click Reset to clear the filters, then click the result again.

Does search cover the whole tree?

Yes. Search looks at the whole tree, not only the rows you have expanded, so a match inside a collapsed group is still listed.

Is the search case-sensitive?

No. Search ignores case and matches your text anywhere in the name shown in the tree.

Can I see more than 50 search results?

No. The list is capped at 50 results. At the limit, the count beside the box reads 50+ and the list ends with Showing first 50 results. Type more characters to narrow the list.

Can I search for a transformation?

Yes. Transformations are their own group of results, and a result shows the table it belongs to in the path under its name.

What does the number beside Filter count?

The number counts the options you have picked, across every category: with two table types and one model picked, it reads 3. It disappears when you clear every filter.

How do I clear a filter?

Open Filter and click the chosen option again to remove it, or click Reset to clear every category at once. While a filter is on, the small Reset beside Filter clears everything without opening the pane.

How long do my filters stay on?

For the session. A reload does not lose them, and a new session starts with none.

Why is the tree empty after I filter?

Nothing in the tree matches every filter you set. Clear one category, or click Reset to see everything again. The No items to display message disappears as soon as the tree has something to show.

What does Has transformations keep?

Only tables that have at least one transformation. Tables without one drop out of the tree, and every kept table keeps its transformation rows.
