Tables, transformations and the other objects open in popup windows. This page shows where you can open an editor from, and which window appears for each kind of object. For the window itself, from dragging to minimising, see Work with popups.
Each of these places opens an object in its popup window:
| From | How to open |
|---|---|
| The Warehouse tree | Double-click a table or transformation row, or select it and press Enter. The Warehouse workspace tour covers the tree. |
| The Dashboard | Click a table or transformation row on the Warehouse Dashboard. |
| A role's table list | In Admin > Profile Management > Roles, open a role and click a table in its Tables section. See Manage a role's tables and users. |
| The Editor | Put the cursor on a table name and press Ctrl+B (⌘+B on a Mac). The table opens in its Lake or Warehouse window. See Write and check SQL. |
| Anywhere, by name | Press Alt+Q, or click Open Popups in the sidebar, or the + button on the popup bar. Search in the window that opens and pick the table or transformation. See Pick tables in the resource picker. |
If the name at the cursor no longer matches a table, no window opens and a notification reads Table "<name>" not found.
The kind of object decides the window, not the place you opened it from.
| You open | The window that appears |

Press Alt+Q, or click Open Popups in the sidebar, or the + button on the popup bar. The window titled Open table or transformation opens; search for the table or transformation and pick it, and its editor opens. See Pick tables in the resource picker.
That window was opened from a source's table list, so its title shows the path to the table, part by part. The part after the last chevron is the table; point at it to read the full name when it is cut short. Windows opened from anywhere else carry the object's name.
The Lake table editor, the same window the Lake screen opens to configure a table. See Configure a table.
The Writeback table editor, with its Table, Preview and Settings tabs. See Create and edit a Writeback table.
Yes. In Admin > Profile Management > Roles, open a role and click a table in its Tables section. The table opens in the same editor that opens from anywhere else. See Manage a role's tables and users.
Yes. The tree, the Dashboard, a role's table list and the resource picker open the same window for the object's kind, and the Editor opens that window as well.
On the Lake screen: open the connector, go to its Build step and click Open code editor for the connector's code, or click Open recipe editor to change an API recipe. See The connector code editor and Connect any API.
