Ask AI answers questions about DataMind from DataMind Docs, in a panel that stays available while you work. Use it when you need an answer about a product, a step or a setting without leaving the page you are on.
The panel header reads Ask AI · DataMind Docs. Answers link to the pages behind them, so you can read the full guide.
Ask AI is one panel for the whole of DataMind OS. It is closed, open or minimised to the sidebar dock, one state at a time. Minimise it to keep your conversation and reach it from any page.
DataMind FM can sit in the sidebar dock too. See Listen to DataMind FM. When the DataMind FM mini player is on the screen, the panel sits above it.
The Ask AI button on the DataMind Docs card also minimises the panel when the panel is open.
The subtitle under Ask AI in the sidebar dock shows the state of the panel:
| Subtitle | What it means |
|---|---|
| DataMind Docs | The panel is open or minimised, and no answer is waiting. |
| Answering… | An answer is being written. |
| Answer ready | An answer finished while the panel was minimised. Opening the panel clears it. |
When the sidebar is collapsed, the dock shows only the tile. Hover over it to read the same text. A coloured dot marks the tile while the panel is open.
To ask again, go to Universe and click Ask AI on the DataMind Docs card.
| Setting | What it does | Default |

Any signed-in user can use Ask AI. It needs no DataMind OS permission. Your network must be able to reach datamind.guide. If it cannot, your administrator can allow it.
Before it opens, Ask AI checks that DataMind Docs can be reached from your network. While it checks and loads, the panel shows Loading DataMind Docs. If it cannot open, it shows one of two messages:
After a successful check, Ask AI does not check again for about 5 minutes, and Try again checks again at once. For what each message means and when it appears, see Troubleshooting Universe.
Open Universe in the sidebar and click Ask AI on the DataMind Docs card. After that, Ask AI stays in the sidebar dock while it is open or minimised.
No. Ask AI belongs to the whole of DataMind OS, not to one page. Minimise it and open it again from the sidebar dock. Your conversation is still there.
Minimize hides the panel and keeps it in the sidebar dock, with your conversation. Close removes the panel and its dock entry. To open it again after you close it, go back to Universe.
An answer finished while the panel was minimised. Click Ask AI in the sidebar dock to read it. The notice clears when the panel opens. The same mark shows on the DataMind Docs card in Universe until you open the panel.
Only where you are. Ask AI receives only the name of the sidebar area, for example Lake, and the page path, with record numbers and IDs removed. It does not receive your data, query results or the content of the page.
Your network does not allow access to datamind.guide. Ask your administrator to allow it, then click Try again. Until then, open DataMind Docs from a network that can reach it.
No. The Documentation page in the sidebar has its own search, opened with the search button in its header or with Alt+W. The Ask AI panel answers from DataMind Docs and follows you to every page.
No. The panel has a fixed size on a desktop window. For more room, click the external-link button in the panel header to open DataMind Docs in a new tab.
