Rate Oda's messages
In a chat, every finished reply from DataMind Oda can carry a rating: a positive or negative mark, with an optional note and a category. This page covers how a rating is saved, changed and removed, and what stays afterwards. A remark about the whole chat is a different channel; Send feedback about a chat covers it.
Rate a reply
- Point at a finished reply from Oda. Its action row, the row that holds Copy, also holds two rating buttons: Good response and Bad response.
- Click the rating you want. The Submit feedback dialog opens, where you can add a note and one of the seven categories, or leave both out.
- Click Submit. The rating is saved against that reply and stays visible there.
Opening the dialog records nothing on its own: a rating is saved only when you submit it.
Ratings attach to Oda's replies that hold text, from the chat's own record. A message you sent, an empty reply, or a reply that replaced an earlier one cannot be rated; the attempt is refused as target-not-found.
Notes and categories
- A rating can carry a note and one of the seven categories that the chat's feedback dialog offers. Both are optional.
- A note keeps its exact text, including the spaces at its ends. It must hold at least one character other than a space; a note of nothing but spaces is refused as
note-blank.
- A note can hold up to 8,192 bytes; the exact limit is set for your installation. Length is counted in UTF-8 bytes rather than characters, so some characters count more than once. A longer note is refused as
note-too-large, and the refusal names the limit and the size of your note.
- A change replaces the whole entry: a note or a category that you leave out is cleared.
Change or remove a rating
- To change a rating, choose the other rating button and submit the change: it replaces the earlier rating on that reply.
- To remove a rating, click the rating that is already set. It reads Remove rating, and the rating goes without opening the dialog.
- Every saved change carries a version. A change or removal is checked against the version Oda last showed you; if the rating changed in the meantime, for example in another window, the change is refused as a version conflict (
version-conflict) and the current state of the rating is shown. Look at it, then apply your change again from there.
- Removing a rating that is already gone is not an error: there is nothing left to remove, the outcome is the same as a successful removal, and it can be retried safely.
- Saving exactly what is already stored records nothing: no new entry is added.
- A save is also refused as
session-not-found when the chat cannot be found in Oda's records: there is nothing to attach the rating to.
- If a save fails, nothing is left half-written: the last saved state stands, and you can reload the chat and try again.
What stays in the chat's log
- Oda records a rating in the chat's log on your computer, next to the reply it belongs to. Ratings survive a restart of Oda: when the chat reopens, its replies show their ratings again.
- A branch of a chat starts without rating history: ratings left in the chat you branched from do not appear in the branch, and ratings on one side do not change the other. See Conversation branches.
- Removing a rating is not erasure. It takes the rating off the reply from then on, but the earlier rating and its note stay in the chat's log, and the removal is recorded as its own entry.
- A rating is a record about the chat, not a message to the model: it never joins the requests Oda sends, adds no tokens, and does not change any answer.
- What can leave your computer with feedback, and when, is on Feedback and privacy.
Questions, answered
Can I rate a message I sent?
No. Ratings attach to Oda's replies that hold text, from the chat's own record. A message you sent, an empty reply, or a reply that replaced an earlier one cannot be rated; the attempt is refused as target-not-found.
Can I change a rating after I leave it?
Yes. Choose the other rating button and submit the change; it replaces the earlier rating on that reply. To take the rating back instead, click the rating that is already set, which reads Remove rating.
What happens if two windows change the same rating?
The change made against the older state is refused as a version conflict (version-conflict), and the current state of the rating is shown. Look at it, then apply your change again from there.
Why was my note refused?
Two refusals are possible. A note that holds nothing but spaces is refused as note-blank. A note over the size limit is refused as note-too-large, which names the limit and the size of your note; shorten it and save again. The limit is 8,192 bytes, set for your installation.
Will Oda trim the note I add?
No. A note keeps its exact text, including the spaces at its ends; only the check for an empty note ignores spaces. A /feedback remark is different: Oda trims its ends. See Send feedback about a chat.
I removed a rating. Is it gone for good?
It is gone from the reply in the chat, but not from the chat's log: the earlier rating and its note stay in the record, and the removal is recorded as its own entry. Removing is not an erasure. For what can leave your computer with feedback, see Feedback and privacy.
Do my ratings survive a restart?
Yes. Ratings are kept with the chat in its log on your computer, and the replies show them again when the chat reopens.
Does a branch of a chat keep my ratings?
No. A branch starts without rating history: ratings left in the chat you branched from do not appear in the branch, and ratings on one side do not change the other. See Conversation branches.
How is a rating different from a remark?
A rating is about one reply, and it can be changed or removed; its note keeps its exact text. A remark, sent with /feedback, is about the chat; it cannot be changed or withdrawn, and its text is trimmed at the ends. Both are recorded in the chat's log and never reach the model.
