In DataMind Oda, a chat can hold more than one version. When you change something in the past of a chat, Oda cuts a new version that continues from just before the message you changed, and keeps the earlier path as it was.
A version is another path through the same chat, and the earlier paths are not discarded: they stay in the chat, reachable from the switcher and the map.
Three actions cut a new version. They differ in what the new version starts with:
| Action | The new version continues from just before | What Oda runs in it |
|---|---|---|
| Edit | the message you edit | your edited text, with the attachments of the original message |
| Rewind to here | the message you choose | nothing; the message goes back into the message box |
| Retry | the last prompt | the last prompt, unchanged |
Edit, Rewind to here and Retry are hidden while a reply is running. If the new version cannot be created, the editor shows The new version could not be created: {message}.
Rewind to here cuts a version in the same way. A rewind can also put back the files Oda changed after that message; that part has its own page: Rewind and restore files. The three actions themselves are covered in Edit, rewind and retry a message.
When a message has more than one version, a ‹ n/m › switcher appears on it. Previous version and Next version step between them, and the switcher names the one you are on, for example Version 2 of 3.
No. The new version starts from just before the message you changed, so everything before it is kept. Your edited message runs in the new version, and everything that came after it stays in the version you were on.
Point to the message that has several versions and use the ‹ n/m › switcher. You can also open the conversation map and click a message to open the version that shows it.
The switcher is disabled while a reply runs, and its tooltip reads Stop the running reply first. Stop the reply, or wait for it to finish. Edit, Rewind to here and Retry are hidden while a reply runs too.
Retry appears on the last answer of the version you are viewing, while nothing is running. It asks the last prompt again in a new version, and it never restores files.
No. Moving between versions never touches your files, and Retry never restores files. Restoring files is a separate choice, covered in Rewind and restore files.
Creating a version stops the background subagents, jobs and reminders of the version you were on. Reminders do not come back when you switch back to it.
Yes. Creating a version does not rewind your memory, skills or scheduled tasks.
Yes. The name, the pin and the archive cover every version of the chat. A single version cannot be archived or deleted on its own.
The list follows the version you are on, and the other versions are reached from the switcher and the map. A branch glyph on the row tells you the chat has more than one version.
No. A version is another path inside this chat. Branch into a new conversation, among the actions on a message, makes a separate chat; see Actions on a message.
The conversation up to the end of that turn, as inherited history; a steer you sent while the turn ran is part of it. The action appears only on the last message of a completed turn, and a turn stopped before it settled has no branch point of its own. Actions on a message covers the button and its greyed message.
It tells you where you are among the versions of that message: you are on the second of three. The arrows step through the others.
