DataMind Oda keeps itself up to date from your company's DataMind OS. This page explains how updates arrive, how to check for one right away, and what to do when an update does not finish. To install Oda for the first time, see Install and sign in.
Oda checks your company's DataMind server for a new version about every ten minutes, and only while you are signed in. When you are signed out, it does not check for updates. If a check fails, Oda waits longer before trying again; a successful check returns to the usual rhythm.
When an update is available, Oda downloads it in the background while nothing is running. A small Update control at the bottom of the sidebar shows how it is going; with the sidebar collapsed, the control shrinks to a progress badge such as 58%…. When the download is ready, you can install it from there with Install and Restart; if something goes wrong, the control turns red and shows the reason, and you can retry from it.
Oda installs a downloaded update on its own only when no task is running and the computer has been idle for about ten minutes, or when you quit Oda. It never restarts in the middle of a task without asking.
Oda's clients keep separate versions: the desktop app, the VS Code extension and the Excel add-in update independently. Each one is checked against its own minimum version when it uses your DataMind server, so an update can be needed in one client while the others keep working.
If a restart would interrupt tasks, Oda asks first. The dialog says Tasks are still in progress and Restarting to update may interrupt these tasks. Continue updating?
If new tasks start while the dialog is open, Oda does not install anything: it says New tasks started. Review the update confirmation again.
Oda shows what failed and offers Retry update:
Check your connection to your company's DataMind server and try again. After a failed install, Oda asks you to confirm again before it retries. View technical details opens the details of the failure; it stays collapsed until you open it. Pressing Escape cancels the dialog, and closing it never starts an update on its own.
If Oda cannot stop the running tasks safely, it says Tasks could not be stopped safely. The update was not installed. Please try again later. and keeps the version you had.
Oda checks a new version before it replaces your installation. If it does not start, Oda says This update could not start on this computer, so it was not installed. You still have the version you had. and keeps the version you had.
When Oda starts again, it explains the reason once: DataMind Oda {version} did not start when the installer checked it, so this version was kept. Oda does not offer that version again on its own; you can check again to retry it.
About every ten minutes, and only while you are signed in. After a failed check Oda waits longer before trying again; a successful check returns to the usual rhythm.
Oda handles it: it downloads updates in the background and installs them when your computer is idle and no task is running, or when you quit Oda. You can also update right away yourself at any time.
Open Settings > About and click Check for Updates (on macOS you can also use Check for Updates… in the application menu). If an update is available, click Download update, then Install and Restart when the download is ready.
Oda asks before it restarts. Choose Stop tasks and update to stop the tasks and install now, or Update later to keep working. Oda never restarts in the middle of a task without asking.
No. Every confirmation names one exact version and is used once: the download you start and the restart you approve belong to that version. If the version on offer changes in the meantime, the old confirmation is refused and Oda asks you again instead of installing something you did not see.
Oda shows Update required when your company's DataMind server needs a newer version of DataMind Oda: Your DataMind server needs DataMind Oda {version} or later. Click Update now. To keep working in the meantime, choose Open DataMind in your browser; Use another server takes you back to the address screen.
No. Your chats, files and settings stay on your computer; the update replaces the app itself. One case is different: an update that moves Oda's data to a new location keeps everything it moves (chats, settings, skills, memory and saved connections) but not the stored sign-in, so the first launch after such an update asks you to sign in once.
Open Settings > About: it shows your current version. On macOS, the About DataMind Oda panel in the application menu shows it too. A check that finds nothing also names it: No updates available. Current version: V{version}.
Oda says what failed and offers Retry update. The messages are Could not check for updates. Please try again later., Could not download the update. Please try again. and Could not install the update. Please try again later. Check your connection to your company's DataMind server and try again. View technical details opens the specifics; if the update keeps failing, see Troubleshooting.
Oda does not install it: This update could not start on this computer, so it was not installed. You still have the version you had. When Oda starts again, it explains once: DataMind Oda {version} did not start when the installer checked it, so this version was kept. Oda will not offer that version again on its own; checking again can retry it.
Oda cannot restart while it is busy in VS Code. It shows DataMind Oda is still running in VS Code. Let the reply there finish, or close VS Code, then try the update again.
