Oda in the browser
DataMind Oda can serve its interface to a browser, so you can open it in a browser tab instead of the app window. The chats, models and settings you see there are the same ones, and there is nothing to install to use it. You can also install the page as an app from the browser itself.
Open the browser interface
- Open the address where Oda serves its interface. Oda prints that address when it starts the browser surface; by default the address serves this computer only, and Oda refuses to open the interface to a whole network. Starting the browser surface covers starting it and the options that change the address.
- Opening the address Oda printed signs this browser in, and the interface loads. Later visits from the same browser open it directly.
- An address the interface does not serve answers
not found, so a mistyped or stale address is clear.
If a page says Sign-in required; reopen the address the server printed when it started., this browser has not signed in yet: reopen the exact address from the latest start, and the interface loads. The Oda web app covers the sign-in page and what the address serves.
While Oda loads
- The interface opens with the Oda wordmark and Loading plugins… while it starts. It is ready when you can use Choose workspace.
- The first screen follows your look: with Dark chosen in Settings > General, the loading screen is already dark before anything loads. Appearance and font size covers the choice.
First run: the notice and the model key
A fresh interface walks you through its first-run steps in order.
- A notice explains that the product is in an early testing stage. Read it and choose Continue.
- When no model is set up yet, a second step asks for a model API key. Type the key and choose Save and continue, or choose Configure later to go on without it.
- Pick the folder this chat should work in, and the chat screen opens ready for your first task.
While a first-run step is open, the rest of the app does not respond. Use the step's own buttons to answer it.
Install it as an app
- Open the interface in a browser.
- Use your browser's own install control. Installed this way, the app is named DataMind Oda, with the short name DataMind, and it opens fullscreen.
Questions, answered
Do I need to install anything to use Oda in a browser?
No. The browser interface is part of Oda: open the address where it is served and it loads. Installing the page as an app is optional, and the address keeps working if you skip it.
Why does Oda show a notice before I can start?
A fresh interface opens with a notice about the testing stage of the product. It must be answered before the app can be used: choose Continue, and Oda hands the interface over to you.
Why does nothing else respond while the first-run step is open?
The first-run steps take over the whole app on purpose: until you answer, the rest of the page does not accept input, so nothing runs behind the steps. Escape or a click outside does not count as an answer; use the step's own buttons.
Why did the notice come back?
- A newer notice shipped, so it shows again until you answer that version.
- You open the interface from another computer. There, the answer cannot be saved and lasts for the page you are on, so the notice shows again the next time it loads.
On the address Oda serves to this computer, your answer is remembered.
Why does Oda ask for a model API key?
Only when no model is set up yet. The step follows the notice on a fresh interface, and it does not come back once any model has a key.
Is the key I save shown anywhere?
No. Oda stores it write-only and never shows it again. To add or replace a key later, open Settings > Models; Models covers the page.
When is Oda ready to use?
When you can use Choose workspace in the interface. Until then it shows the wordmark with Loading plugins… while it starts.
The address I open for Oda sits inside a larger site and includes a folder. Does everything still work?
Yes. Everything the page needs stays under the address you open: the page, its files and its connection to Oda. Install it as an app from that same address, and it keeps working.
