Oda in Cursor and VS Code

DataMind Oda runs in Cursor and in Visual Studio Code from the same DataMind Oda extension. This page covers what the two editors share and what stays separate. The Open in Cursor control is a different feature, covered on The Oda extension for Cursor.

One extension for both editors

Kept apart, or shared

Installing Oda in Cursor is on Install Oda in Cursor and sign in; for Visual Studio Code, see Oda in VS Code. What the extension adds once it is running is on The Oda extension for VS Code.

Questions, answered

Do Cursor and VS Code share my chats?

No, not by default. Each editor keeps its own chats, profile and agent settings in its own storage, so a chat you start in Cursor stays in Cursor. The datamind-oda.home setting names the folder where Oda keeps your chats, profile and agent settings: set the same folder in both editors to share chats between them, or leave it empty to keep them in this editor's own storage. Change it in the editor's settings.

Can I move my chats from one editor to the other?

Chats stay with the editor that made them. To use the same chats in both editors, set the same datamind-oda.home folder in both. Bringing data over from the desktop app is a separate feature of the extension; Sign in to Oda in VS Code covers it.

Do Cursor and VS Code share the components Oda downloads?

Yes. A component is downloaded once for the computer, and every editor on the machine shares that copy. Components for the extension covers downloading and removing them.

Do Cursor and VS Code share my sign-in?

No. Each editor signs in on its own, and the desktop app keeps its own sign-in too. Sign in to Oda in VS Code covers the steps and the messages.

What differs between Oda in Cursor and Oda in VS Code?

They run the same extension, and the extension shows the parts your editor supports: where a part of the app is not supported in the editor, it simply does not appear, with no error.

Does the agent run on my computer?

Yes. The extension brings its own agent runtime and runs it on your computer, so no desktop app is needed.

I work in a remote window. Where does Oda run?

On your local machine. A remote window (SSH, WSL or a container) still runs the agent on the local machine, not on the remote host.

Can I manage plugins in the editor?

No. In the editor Oda loads only its built-in bundles, and the Plugins page reports management as unavailable. Plugins installed in the desktop app belong to the desktop app.
