Train a Mind with training cards

A training card is a note that tells a Mind how to answer: a company rule, a definition or reference material. Use the Training Hub to write, organise and switch on the cards a Mind works from.

Note

The Training Hub is for desktop screens. On a phone or a narrow window the tab is locked and shows Training Hub is desktop-only.

Open the Training Hub

  1. Open Minds in the left navigation and select the Mind.
  2. Click Training Hub in the Mind's tabs. While a Mind is open, press Ctrl+Shift+K to open its Training Hub directly.

If you can view training cards but cannot edit the Mind, the Mind opens on Training Hub, and that is the only tab you see.

Find your way around the Explorer

The Explorer lists the folders and cards, with a card count beside its title. Each card you open gets its own tab in the editor, and your open tabs come back when you reload the page.

ControlWhat it does
Expand all folders and Collapse all foldersOpen or close every folder in the tree.
Filter explorerOpens the search and filters: Search cards and folders…, Card type, and Status with Enabled and Disabled.
Batch select / Exit batch selectAdds a tick box to every card so you can act on a selection.
New folderCreates a folder. Until a card is placed inside, it lives only in your session.
Upload filesTurns up to 50 files into cards. See Upload files as training cards.
Add CardCreates a blank card.
New from template…Opens the template gallery. It sits in the arrow beside Add Card.

A few rules the tree follows:

Create a card

  1. Click Add Card, type a name and press Enter. Press Escape to cancel.
  2. The card opens in its own editor tab. Write the instruction or the reference text. See Write and edit a training card for the editor in full.
  3. Choose Persistent or Vectorized, and add tags if you need them. A card takes up to 10 tags.
  4. When the card is ready, switch it from Disabled to Enabled.
  5. Save your work. While a card has unsaved edits, a bar reads You have unsaved changes, with Cancel to discard them and Save; saving sends only the differences.

New cards start Disabled, so the Mind ignores them until you enable them. A card name can have up to 255 characters and must be unique within its Mind; a name that is taken gives A card with this name already exists.

Choose Persistent or Vectorized

SettingHow the Mind uses itWhat to pick it for
PersistentThe card's text sits in the Mind's instructions and applies to every answer while the card is enabled.Short rules the Mind must always follow.
VectorizedThe card is prepared for search, and the Mind looks up the parts a question needs. It is not added to the instructions.Longer reference material.

A new blank card starts Disabled and Persistent. A template card and a card made with Train on a query artifact arrive enabled.

After you save a Vectorized card, it is prepared in the background:

Renaming a card, changing its tags or switching it off and on again never starts a new run. Changing the card's text, or switching its type to Vectorized, does start one, and switching a Vectorized card to Persistent removes its prepared search data. How many passages a search returns, and how similar they must be, is set for the Mind in AI Config.

Start from a template

  1. Click the arrow beside Add Card and choose New from template…. Or right-click a folder and choose New card from template….
  2. Pick a template. The card is created at once and opens in the editor.
Warning

A template card is enabled as soon as it is created, so the Mind uses it straight away.

The gallery, with each template explained, is on Training card templates.

Review drafts from chats

When a Mind saves something from a chat as a training card, the chat shows Remembering "{name}" and then Memory created. The card arrives Disabled, so it does not change answers yet.

  1. Click View in Training Hub on the chat card. You need Edit Mind for this.
  2. Read the draft, correct it if needed, and switch it to Enabled.
  3. Save.

A card made with Train on a query artifact is different: it arrives Enabled, Persistent and tagged SQL Example. See Artifacts.

Work with several cards

  1. Click Batch select, then tick the cards. Ticking a folder selects every card inside it.
  2. Use the buttons that appear to enable, disable, copy, share or delete the selection.

Check and restore earlier versions

  1. Click History in the editor footer.
  2. Choose a version. Read it with Query, or set it against the current text with Compare.
  3. Click Replace to put that version into the editor, then save.

Replace appears only when the card has saved versions, and it works only on cards you own.

Watch the size estimate

The Hub keeps an eye on how much training text goes into the Mind's instructions. Above 400,000 characters of enabled Persistent cards, a banner warns: Enabled training content is very large (over 400,000 chars) and may exceed the mind's context window. The footer below the tree reads No persistent cards in the prompt yet, or counts the persistent cards and their size.

Only enabled Persistent cards are counted, because only they are added to the Mind's instructions. Disable the cards you do not need, or move long reference material to Vectorized cards.

Questions, answered

Should a card be Persistent or Vectorized?

Use Persistent for rules the Mind must follow in every answer, and Vectorized for longer reference material the Mind should look up when a question needs it. Retrieval settings live in AI Config.

I added a card, but the Mind ignores it. Why?

New blank cards start Disabled, and so do cards the Mind saves from a chat. Switch the card to Enabled and save. A card a template or a query created arrives enabled, so check its switch first.

Why can't I enable a card?

The card has no content, its PDF is still converting, its conversion failed, or it is being processed. Point at the Enabled switch to read the reason. In a batch, the cards that cannot be enabled are skipped and counted.

If I rename a vectorized card, does it process again?

No. Renaming, changing tags or switching a Vectorized card off and on again does not start a run; its prepared search data stays. Changing the card's text, or switching its type to Vectorized, does start one.

Can I change a card's type after saving it?

Yes. Switch it to Vectorized and save to have it prepared for search. Switching a Vectorized card to Persistent removes its prepared search data and puts the text into the Mind's instructions instead.

The Mind saved a memory in my chat. Is it active?

No. The card arrives Disabled, so answers do not change until someone reviews it. Click View in Training Hub on the chat card (you need Edit Mind), read it, enable it and save.

Can I go back to an earlier version of a card?

Yes, on a card you own. Open History in the editor footer, read the version you want, click Replace, then save.

The Training Hub warns that training content is very large. Is that a problem?

It counts the enabled Persistent cards, and their text goes into the Mind's instructions for every answer. Large content can crowd the Mind's context window. Disable cards you do not need, or move long reference material to Vectorized cards, which are not added to the instructions.

Does deleting a folder keep its cards?

No. Deleting a folder deletes every card inside it, including nested folders, and cannot be undone. Cards shared with other Minds move to one of those Minds instead.

Why did my empty folder disappear?

A folder lives in the Mind once a card is inside it. A newly created folder that stays empty lives in your session only, so it is gone when you leave the Mind. Place a card in it to keep it.

Why is the Training Hub missing on my phone?

The Training Hub is for desktop screens. On a phone or a narrow window the tab is locked and shows Training Hub is desktop-only. Open it on a desktop.
