Claude Desktop

The Claude Desktop extension connects Claude to your DataMind OS, so you can ask your Minds questions and query your data from Claude in plain language. Follow this page once to download the file, install it and sign in.

Download the extension file

  1. In the sidebar, open Universe.
  2. In the Integrations block, find the Claude Desktop tile and click Download. The button shows Loading while the file is prepared.
  3. If your browser opens a save dialog, choose where to save the file and confirm. If it does not, the file downloads straight away.
  4. Wait for the Download successful message. It reads "Claude Desktop MCP extension has been downloaded."
Note

The file is prepared for your DataMind OS, so nobody types an address. One file serves everyone on the same DataMind OS. Each person installs it and signs in with their own account.

The download needs the Add Roles permission. Without it, the download fails with a Download failed message that names status code 403. Ask an administrator for the file, or for the permission.

Install the extension in Claude Desktop

  1. Open the downloaded extension file (.mcpb) with Claude Desktop.
  2. Confirm the installation when Claude Desktop asks.

The first time Claude uses the extension, your browser opens the DataMind OS sign-in page.

  1. In Claude Desktop, ask about your Minds, for example Which Minds do I have?
  2. In the browser, sign in with your DataMind OS account. If you are already signed in, the page continues at once.
  3. Return to Claude Desktop. It can now answer with the Minds you can use.

If Claude reports "Session expired." later, turn the extension off and on in Claude Desktop, then sign in again.

If a message you see is not covered here, check Troubleshooting integrations.

What Claude can reach

After you sign in, Claude can ask your Minds questions, look at the tables they can read and run read-only queries on the data your roles allow. Only the Minds your roles can reach appear in Claude.

For what Claude can do once it is connected, see Use DataMind OS from Claude. To learn what Minds are, see Minds.

Update the extension

When a new version of the extension is available, the version badge on the Claude Desktop tile shows a new number. Download the file again and install it the same way.

Questions, answered

Why does Download fail on the Claude Desktop tile?

The download needs the Add Roles permission. Without it, you see Download failed with a message that names status code 403. Ask an administrator for the file, or for the permission. For what the permission covers, see the Permission reference.

Do I need Claude Desktop installed before I start?

Yes. The extension installs into Claude Desktop. If it is not installed on your computer, click the Visit website button on the Claude Desktop tile to open Claude's download page. Set up the extension from a computer: Universe does not open on a phone.

Do I need to type my DataMind OS address in Claude?

No. The file is prepared for your DataMind OS, so Claude already knows where to connect.

Can I share the extension file with colleagues?

Yes. Each person installs the file in their own Claude Desktop and signs in with their own account. Claude then sees only the Minds that person can use.

What happens if I cancel the save dialog?

Nothing is downloaded, and DataMind OS shows no message. Click Download again when you are ready to save the file.

Why does Claude say my session expired?

Claude shows "Session expired." when your DataMind OS sign-in for the extension is no longer valid. Turn the extension off and on in Claude Desktop, then sign in again when the DataMind OS sign-in page opens.

The sign-in page opened, but Claude did not respond. What now?

Finish signing in on the page that opened, then return to Claude Desktop and ask again. If Claude still does not respond, turn the extension off and on and sign in again.

Why is there no version badge on the Claude Desktop tile?

The badge and the download both need the Add Roles permission. Without it, the tile still opens its help, but you cannot download the file. Ask an administrator to share the file with you, or to give you the permission.

How do I know whether I have the latest version?

Compare the version badge on the tile with the version of the copy you installed. When the badge shows a newer number, a newer file is available: download it again and install it in Claude Desktop.
