The toolbar sits above the rows of a table, the results of an Editor query included. It carries the search box, the buttons that act on the table and the statistics of the last load.
Which buttons you see depends on the table: the toolbar shows the controls the screen offers and leaves out the rest.
Reading from left to right, the toolbar holds:
The search works like the rest of filtering. See Filter, sort and search.
| Button | What it does | When you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Add row | Adds a new row where the table allows it. | Not shown by default. You see it only where the screen turns it on. |
| Remove selected rows (select rows first) / Remove N selected rows | Removes the rows you selected. | Greyed out until a row is selected, with the tooltip Remove selected rows (select rows first). With a selection it reads Remove N selected rows and shows the count. |
| Copy to clipboard | Opens the copy menu: Copy table, Include headers and Formatted values. | Wherever the table can be copied. See Export and copy. |
| Refresh data | Asks the table to load its rows again. | Its icon becomes a spinner while the table loads. |
| Export data | Downloads the table's rows. | See Export and copy. |
| Upload file | Opens the file picker and hands the file to the screen. | The tooltip names the file kind, for example Upload Excel file. When the table is set to another format, the button is greyed out and reads Upload is only available for Excel format. See Export and copy. |
| Save N unsaved rows / Discard unsaved changes | Saves or throws away the changes you have not saved yet. | Added only while the table has unsaved changes. See Edit cells and unsaved changes. |
| Control | What it does | When you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-fit columns | The first click fits every column to its content, tooltip Auto-fit all columns to content. The next click restores the default widths, tooltip Reset column widths to defaults. | Shown where the table provides fitting. See Arrange and fit columns. |
| Density: the current level | Moves through the four levels: Comfortable, Normal, Cozy and Dense. | Its tooltip names the level and describes it, for example Dense, Compact spacing. See The data grid. |
| Toggle column visibility | Opens the Columns panel to show, hide and reorder columns. | Where the table offers column controls. See Arrange and fit columns. |
| Table view / Card view | Switches the layout where the table has a card view. | The pair is labelled View layout. See The data grid. |
| View menu | Opens View Preferences with Density and Text Size. | Where the table offers view preferences. See The data grid. |
| View settings | The folded menu of a narrow toolbar. It holds Auto-fit columns where the table offers it, the density levels, Filter visibility, Selection mode and Column visibility. | Appears only when the toolbar has folded. See The toolbar in a narrow window. |
| Control | What it does | When you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Clear all filters | Clears every column filter and empties the search box. | Always present; greyed out with the tooltip No active filters when nothing is active. With filters on, the tooltip counts them: Clear all filters (N). See Filter, sort and search. |
| Selection mode | Chooses how whole rows are selected (Checkbox, Drag, Both or None) and offers Enable Cell Selection for cells. | Hidden when the table offers no choice. See Select, copy and paste cells. |
| Stack selected rows as comparison cards | Opens the comparison of the rows your selection touches. | Needs cells in two or more rows; until then the tooltip reads Select cells in 2+ rows to compare, then Compare N rows side-by-side. See Compare rows side by side. |
Point at a greyed out button: its tooltip still explains what it is waiting for.
The statistics report what the last load did:
When the toolbar is short of room, the three lines collapse to an info icon. Point at the icon to read them.
A dot beside the statistics marks that filters or selected rows are active. A table with no numbers to report shows no statistics.
A table that offers none of the toolbar controls shows no toolbar at all. Grids that show one list only the buttons their screen provides. See The data grid.
The toolbar shows only what the table offers, so a button with nothing to do there is left out. In card view the table-only controls (auto-fit, density, selection mode and column visibility) are not shown until you switch back, and a narrow toolbar folds the rest into View settings. See The data grid.
The window does not leave room for every button, so they gather into a single View settings menu. Its header reads View Settings and it holds density, filter visibility, selection mode, column visibility and auto-fit where the table offers it. Widen the window to bring the buttons back.
They are the table statistics for the last load: Rows Read:, Bytes Read: and Time Elapsed:, in seconds with two decimals. On a narrow toolbar they hide behind an info icon; point at it to read them.
It marks that filters or selected rows are active.
It has nothing to do yet, or the table is loading. Most buttons wait while the table loads, with a spinner in place of the icon, and a few stay available. Point at the greyed out button to read what it is waiting for.
Select the rows first, then click Remove N selected rows. Until then the button is greyed out and its tooltip reads Remove selected rows (select rows first). The removal counts as an unsaved change; see Edit cells and unsaved changes. To select rows, see Select, copy and paste cells.
Where the table allows it, click Add row in the toolbar. The button is hidden by default, so you see it only on screens that turn it on. The new row sits at the bottom until you save it; see Edit cells and unsaved changes.
Save N unsaved rows and Discard unsaved changes join the toolbar only while the table has unsaved changes: an edited value, a removed row or an added row. Save or discard them and the two buttons leave. See Edit cells and unsaved changes.
It asks the table to load its rows again. While the load runs, its icon becomes a spinner and most buttons wait.
