DataMind Oda settings

Open Admin, then Oda; the page subtitle reads "Settings, MCP servers and the feedback people send on Oda answers. Oda skills are managed in AI Configuration.". The page has the tabs General, MCP and Feedback; Feedback shows only to people who may read it. This page covers General, where the company-wide rules for every Oda user live, and Feedback, where the ratings and reports people send on Oda's answers arrive. The MCP tab is covered in MCP servers. The skills Oda loads are organisation skills, managed on the Skills tab of AI configuration; see Organisation skills.

Open the General tab

  1. In the sidebar, click Admin.
  2. Click Oda.
  3. Click General if the MCP tab is showing.

General holds four cards: Organization instructions, Scheduled tasks, Browser and Oda in Excel. Change what you need on any of them, then save all of them together from the bar at the bottom of the page.

Set the organization instructions

The Organization instructions card ("Added to every Oda chat") holds the text that is added to every Oda chat in the company. Use it for rules that should hold everywhere, for example what may never be pasted into a chat.

  1. Type the text in the Instructions box.
  2. Watch the counter under the box: it counts your text against the limit, for example "1,234 / 8,000".
  3. Click Save in the bar at the bottom when all the cards are as you want them.

The limit is 8,000 characters. It is a server limit, about 2,000 tokens of English text. Over the limit the counter switches to the warning colour, the box shows "Keep the instructions under 8,000 characters.", and Save does not go through until you shorten the text.

Turn scheduled tasks on or off

The Scheduled tasks card controls whether Oda runs scheduled tasks in the company.

  1. Switch the card off or on.
  2. Click Save in the bar at the bottom.

People create and manage their own scheduled tasks in Oda; see Schedule recurring tasks. While this setting is off, their runs are refused until you turn it back on.

Scheduled tasks are enabled for a person only when this card is on and their role includes Schedule DataMind Oda Tasks. With either one missing, their scheduled runs are refused. See Manage DataMind Oda for your company for the sets that include it.

Choose what Oda's browser may do

The Browser card turns Oda's browser on or off for everyone and sets which sites it may open. The card reads Enabled or Turned off: Oda cannot use its browser, and its icon greys out while it is off.

Oda's browser turns on for a person only when this card is on and their role includes Use DataMind Oda Browser; with either one missing, it stays off for them.

Site rules offers two options:

The Blocked sites field is shown with both options. Entries in the two lists work the same way:

The Browser in scheduled tasks switch at the bottom of the card is locked: it shows the stored value, and you cannot change it on this page.

How people use the browser on their side is described in The browser in Oda.

Turn Oda in Excel features on or off

The Oda in Excel card turns eight features of Oda in Excel on or off for everyone in the company. Each is on until you change it.

SwitchHint on the cardWhat it controls
File uploads"Users can attach PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV and image files to a chat."Attaching files to a message, reading them, and inserting the sheets of an attached workbook. See Attach files in Excel.
Office.js code"Oda can write and run Office.js code when its built-in tools cannot do the task."Office.js code Oda writes and runs, with every change approved as each person's permission mode says. See Office.js code in Excel.
Python"Oda can run Python with pandas, NumPy and SciPy in an isolated sandbox. Not available on iPad."Python Oda runs for analysis, whose writes to the workbook are approved like Oda's other writes. See Run Python with Oda.
Web search"Oda can search the web for public data such as rates and prices. Search text goes to DataMind's web search service."Web searches, which run without an approval card. Search text goes to DataMind's web service and on to a search provider outside your company. See Search the web and read pages in Excel.
Web pages"Oda can read pages the user linked in the chat or in an attached file, search results and links on pages it read. It asks every time, in every permission mode, before it reads a link taken from the workbook, a Mind, company knowledge or a connector, and never reads any other address."Reading web pages. The page addresses go to DataMind's web service, which fetches the pages. See Which pages Oda reads.
Built-in Excel skills"Oda can use the skills that DataMind ships with Oda in Excel. Organization skills are not affected: they reach Excel when Oda in Excel is one of their agents."The seven finance skills that come with Oda in Excel. Your organisation skills follow their own settings; see Skills in Excel.
Connectors"Oda can use the MCP servers on the MCP tab that are available in Oda in Excel. Calls go through DataMind, which also holds users' sign-ins to those servers."The MCP servers that have Available in Oda in Excel on. See Connectors in Excel and MCP servers.
Memory"Oda remembers notes a person asks it to keep, on their computer. People still turn it on themselves."Whether people may turn on Memory in the pane. Each person's Memory stays off until they turn it on; with this switch off, their pane shows it as Set by your company, Oda saves no notes, and new chats receive none; a chat that already received a person's notes keeps them in its earlier messages until that person starts a new chat. The notes are stored on each person's computer; your DataMind server receives them only as part of that person's messages. See Memory and instructions in Excel.

The card reads Enabled when all eight are on, for example 6 of 8 enabled when some are, and Turned off: no file uploads, Office.js code, Python, web search, web pages, built-in skills, connectors or memory when none are; its icon greys out then. The card's last row, Oda from Microsoft Marketplace, is not one of the eight and is not counted; see Let Oda from Microsoft Marketplace connect.

  1. Switch the features off or on.
  2. Click Save in the bar at the bottom.

Let Oda from Microsoft Marketplace connect

Oda in Excel comes two ways: the add-in downloaded from this DataMind (Universe, DataMind Oda card, Excel view; see Get DataMind Oda from Universe), and Oda from Microsoft Marketplace, which people add in Excel and then connect to this DataMind by entering its address. The last row of the Oda in Excel card, under a divider, decides whether the second may connect:

  1. Switch the row on or off.
  2. Click Save in the bar at the bottom.

Save or cancel your changes

Read the feedback people send

People rate the answers of Oda in Excel with Good answer and Not helpful, and report a harmful or wrong answer with Report this answer; see Rate, copy and report answers in Excel. Each rating and report arrives on the Feedback tab.

  1. Open Admin > Oda, and click Feedback.
  2. Narrow the list with the filters above it: the type, All feedback, Ratings or Reports; the rating, Any rating, Good answer or Not helpful; and the reason, Any reason, Harmful or unsafe, Wrong or misleading or Something else. The rating filter shows unless you chose Reports, and the reason filter unless you chose Ratings. When nothing matches, the list reads "No feedback matches these filters". The refresh button loads what arrived since.
  3. Click a row to open its details beside the list.

The list shows, newest first, the Date, the User, the App the feedback came from, its Type (Good answer, Not helpful or Report), the Reason of a report, the person's Comment, the id of the Model that wrote the answer, such as kartlos-standard, and Includes answer and message under Content when the person ticked the box to send the answer and their message. Before anything arrives, the tab reads "No feedback yet" with "Ratings and reports people send from Oda answers appear here." and a Refresh button that reads the list again.

The details add the person's email, the pane's version, the Date it was sent, the comment in full, and Identifiers, the Session ID and Turn ID of the chat and the answer, each with a copy button. The answer and the message show under Answer and Message only when the person ticked the box; otherwise the details read "The person did not share the answer or their message." The Session ID is also the Conversation ID of that chat's requests in the AI log, which keeps their content unless the person's content logging is off, so someone who can read both can find a chat that the person chose not to share.

Who can change these settings

Opening the Oda tab needs View DataMind Oda Settings. Changing anything on General needs Edit DataMind Oda Settings; without it the switches and fields are disabled and the save bar never appears. Feedback shows to people with View DataMind Oda Settings or Edit DataMind Oda Settings, and deleting feedback needs Edit DataMind Oda Settings. The sets that include these permissions are described in Manage DataMind Oda for your company.

Questions, answered

How long can the organization instructions be?

Up to 8,000 characters, which is a server limit of about 2,000 tokens of English text. The counter under the box counts your text against the limit, for example "1,234 / 8,000". Over the limit it switches to the warning colour, the box shows "Keep the instructions under 8,000 characters.", and Save does not go through until you shorten the text.

Why is there no Save button on the General tab, or why are the cards read-only?

The save bar with Cancel and Save appears only after you change something on one of the cards. If you can read the cards but the switches and fields are disabled and the save bar never appears, your role does not include Edit DataMind Oda Settings. See Manage DataMind Oda for your company for the sets that include it.

Who can read the feedback people send from Oda in Excel?

People with View DataMind Oda Settings or Edit DataMind Oda Settings, on the Feedback tab of Admin > Oda. An answer and the message that asked for it show there only when the person ticked the box to include them. Deleting a rating or a report needs Edit DataMind Oda Settings.

Why did Save not save anything?

A field has a problem: the instructions are over 8,000 characters, or a site list holds an entry that is not a bare site name. The message under the field says which. Fix it and click Save again. If the save itself fails, you see "Oda settings not saved" with the reason.

Do the cards save together or one by one?

Together. The cards edit one draft, and Save sends the whole draft in a single request. There is no per-card save, and Cancel affects all the cards.

What happens to my edits if I switch to the MCP tab?

The Discard unsaved changes? dialog asks first. Discard changes drops your edits and opens MCP. Keep editing keeps you on General with your draft, so you can save it.

Can I turn Oda's browser off for the whole company?

Yes. Switch the Browser card off and click Save. The card then reads Turned off: Oda cannot use its browser, and Oda cannot use its browser. To bring the browser back, switch the card on and save.

Do entries in the site lists cover subdomains?

Yes. The hint under the lists reads "Press Enter to add. A site also covers its subdomains.", so one entry covers the addresses under that site.

Why was a site I typed refused?

Entries must be bare site names. For a link with https://, a path or a port, the field shows "{site} is not a website. Enter one like example.com, without https:// or a path.". Remove the chip with its cross and type the name alone, for example example.com.

What happens when I switch Scheduled tasks off?

Scheduled runs are refused for everyone in the company while the card is off, and the card reads Turned off: scheduled runs are refused. Turn it back on and save to allow scheduled runs again.

Can I stop Oda in Excel from running code or using the web?

Yes. On the Oda in Excel card, switch Office.js code off, Python off, or both, and click Save. Open panes stop offering them the next time Oda talks to the model. To keep Oda off the web, switch Web search and Web pages off; turn off only Web search to let Oda read the links people give it without searching. To stop people from attaching files, switch File uploads off. These switches do not affect the DataMind Oda app.

Why can't I change Browser in scheduled tasks?

The switch is locked on this page, whatever the Scheduled tasks and Browser cards say. It shows the stored value only.
