At the end of a turn, Oda can suggest a follow-up task that goes beyond the work at hand. The offer appears in the conversation as a Suggest a task step, waits for you even across a restart, and nothing starts, drafts or opens by itself.
While at least one suggestion is open, a card sits over the transcript, under the goal notice when one is showing. The card shows one suggestion at a time, newest first, and it never takes focus, so you can keep working in the message box.
Started · {title}; its Open action takes you to the new chat. The chat also appears in the sidebar, under the same workspace, like any other chat (Chat with Oda).Open {title}).The same suggestion never starts twice: repeating the start returns the same chat instead of creating a second one. The new chat runs on this chat's preset, model and permission, so it never runs with more access than this chat has, and its first message is the brief, marked as coming from the suggestion rather than from you. The suggest-task tool and service explains what that means behind the scenes.
Nothing starts, drafts or opens by itself, and no suggestion action asks for confirmation first, even in Full access (Permissions, approvals and feature controls).
Starts a new chat in {workspace}).Three suggestions are already open. Start or dismiss one first. The card shows one open suggestion at a time, newest first. When more are open, Previous suggestion and Next suggestion page through them (the counter reads {index} of {count}, for example 2 of 3), and the Left and Right arrow keys do the same.
Oda offers at most one suggestion per turn and keeps at most three waiting at a time; a chat can offer ten in total. A chat that runs in a scheduled task's folder offers none. See Schedule recurring tasks.
The card explains the common refusals on the spot:
Three suggestions are already open. Start or dismiss one first. Start or dismiss one of the open suggestions, then try again. This suggestion was already handled. It has already been started, drafted or dismissed, so this action no longer applies. Check what the suggestion now shows. The workspace of this chat was removed. The workspace that held the suggestion is gone, so it cannot start or become a draft; the card also reads Workspace removed. That did not work: {message} The rest of the line carries the reason. Try again, and look the message up on Updates and troubleshooting if it keeps failing.No. A suggestion only ever waits for you. Nothing starts, drafts or opens by itself, and none of its actions asks for confirmation first, even in Full access.
Start runs the task in the background: a new chat is created in the same workspace, this conversation stays as it is, and a toast offers Open. Start & open takes you to the new chat at once. Holding Ctrl, Shift or Cmd while clicking Start also opens it at once.
Yes. Edit as draft opens a new chat with the brief already in its message box, unsent; change the wording and send it yourself when you are ready. The suggestion reads Drafted and will not start on its own.
Use Open on the toast, or the link on the suggestion in the conversation. The new chat also sits in the sidebar, under the same workspace as the chat it came from.
Yes. A dismissed suggestion offers Restore, which opens it again while fewer than three suggestions are open. With three already open, the restore is refused with Three suggestions are already open.
Check what the card shows. The common causes: three suggestions are already open; the suggestion was already handled; or its workspace was removed. Each case has its own message on the card, for example Three suggestions are already open.
The card shows one open suggestion at a time, newest first, so the top of the conversation stays quiet. When more are open, page through them with Previous suggestion and Next suggestion.
Left and Right page between open suggestions, and Escape collapses an expanded card.
Expand the card with Review, or by clicking the suggestion's title. A brief longer than six lines or 360 characters starts clamped behind Show full brief; Show less hides it again.
