Schedule recurring tasks

A scheduled task lets DataMind Oda run a prompt on its own at the time you set, for example a report every weekday morning. Each run starts a new chat, which you find under Scheduled in the sidebar. Scheduled tasks need the DataMind Oda Scheduled Tasks permission, and your administrator must allow them for the company.

  1. Under Scheduled in the sidebar, click New scheduled task.

  2. Fill in the task:

    FieldWhat to enter
NameA name you recognise, for example Daily sales report.
PromptWhat each run should do, in your own words, the way you would ask in a chat. For example: Make yesterday's sales report by region as an Excel file and save it in this folder. To cover only what is new since the last run, write {{lastSuccessfulRun}} where the date goes, for example Summarise the sales since {{lastSuccessfulRun}}: Oda puts in the date and time of the last successful run. On the first run it is empty.
FrequencyManual, Daily, Weekdays, Weekly or Monthly. For Weekly or Monthly, also choose the Day of the week or Day of the month.
TimeWhen it runs, in your computer's time zone.
Preset, ModelHow the run works and which model it uses. Standard mode suits most tasks; Relentless keeps working until the task is done or it needs a decision.
FolderWhere the task saves its files: The task's own folder, or a folder you choose.
AccessWorkspace: the run changes files only in its folder. Full access: it runs with your full rights, if your account allows Full access.
Wake the computer to runTurn it on if your computer may be in sleep mode at the run time.
  3. Click Create task. The task shows its next run.

On the task, Run now runs it at once, and Pause and Resume stop and restart the schedule. Its menu has Edit and Delete. A task whose last run had a problem is marked Needs attention; open that run to see what happened.

Questions, answered

Does my computer need to be on for a scheduled task?

Yes. Scheduled tasks run on your computer, with Oda running. If the computer is in sleep mode, a task with Wake the computer to run turned on still runs: Windows wakes the computer shortly before the run. This works while the computer is plugged in and Allow wake timers is on in the Windows power options. A computer that is shut down does not start for a task.

What happens if a scheduled run needs my approval?

No one is there to approve it, so Oda skips that step, finishes the rest and lists the skipped steps in the task's Run history. To avoid this, let the task save its files in its Folder, or choose Full access for the task.
