Export a session log

Every chat keeps a log of what was said and done in it, and you can download that log as a ZIP file: the chat's log, the logs of its sub-chats, and the files and images attached in the chat. Start the download from the chat's menu, or with the /export command.

Download a chat from its menu

  1. Open the chat you want to export.
  2. Click the … button, labelled More actions, at the top of the chat.
  3. Choose Download session log.
  4. While Oda prepares the archive, the dialog reads Exporting Session with Preparing a ZIP containing this Session, its sub-Sessions, and attachments.; once the download starts, it reads Session download started with The browser is downloading the Session ZIP.
  5. Your browser saves the file, named datamind-session-<id>.zip.

Export with the /export command

  1. Type /export in the message box and send it.
  2. The chat shows Session log download requested., and your browser starts the same ZIP download.

What the archive contains

In the ZIPWhat it holds
session.jsonl or session.vN.jsonlThe chat's own log, one JSON object per line.
subagents/<id>/<logname>The log of every sub-chat, including nested ones, in a folder of its own.
media/<attachmentId>.<ext>The images attached in the chat.
files/<digest-prefix>/<digest>/<name>The other files attached in the chat.

If the download fails

Questions, answered

Where do I find the ZIP file after downloading?

Look in your browser's downloads. Oda hands the download to your browser, so the file is saved where your browser saves its other downloads; Oda does not offer a way to choose another location, and /export takes no path.

Why can I only start one download per chat?

Oda keeps one download per chat at a time. While a download is running, Download session log is disabled, and asking again, from the menu or with /export, does not start a second download. Feedback stays available in the same menu.

Does closing the dialog stop the download?

No. Close dismisses the dialog only; the download continues in your browser, and the dialog does not reopen when the download finishes.

What does the ZIP file contain?

The chat's own log as session.jsonl or session.vN.jsonl; the log of each sub-chat under subagents/; the chat's images under media/; and its other attached files under files/.

Does the ZIP include the newest messages?

Yes. Oda saves the newest records of an open chat before it reads the log for the archive, so the ZIP holds everything up to the moment you start the download, including the record of the /export command when you used it. Work done in the chat afterwards is not in it.

Which window downloads when I run /export?

The window where you ran the command. If the same chat is open in another window, that window shows Session log download requested. without starting its own download; look in the downloads of the window you used.

Does the model see that I exported the chat?

No. /export runs as a command rather than a model turn: the model sees nothing, and no tokens are spent.

Why did my export fail?

When Oda cannot start the download, the dialog reads Session export failed. It shows the reason when it has one, such as Export failed: HTTP <status> <detail>, and otherwise Could not start the Session export. Try again; if it keeps failing, contact your DataMind OS administrator with the message.

Why does the whole export fail if one sub-chat cannot be read?

Oda fails the download rather than leave part of the archive out. Once the download has started, a failure like this is reported by your browser's download manager, not by the dialog.

The dialog says Session. Is that my chat?

Yes. The dialog calls your chat a Session and the chats of delegated work sub-Sessions. In the ZIP, your chat's log sits at the top level and each sub-chat keeps its own log under subagents/.

Does exporting change my chat?

No. The ZIP is a copy: your chat and its log stay as they are.
