Every chat has one access mode: it decides what DataMind Oda may do on your computer without asking you first. This page covers the four modes, how to switch them, the confirmations a switch can ask for, and how to answer when Oda needs your permission. Workspaces, files and permissions covers the folders Oda works in.
| Mode | What it allows | When Oda asks |
|---|---|---|
| Read Only | Read and look things up. Nothing is written, not even temporary files. | Before any change. |
| Workspace Write | Create and change files inside the chat's workspace. It is the default. | Before anything wider than the workspace. |
| Full access | Act without asking, including wider changes and commands with more rights. | Never. |
| Auto review (EXP) | Run with the same reach as Full access. | Never; first, a model reviews every tool call. |
Full access and Auto review run with reduced or no confirmation prompts. Use them only for work you trust.
You can also run / to open the mode picker; it has a filter box. If the message box is narrow, the control can shrink to an icon, and the mode names in the menu stay readable.
The choice stays with the chat, including after a restart, and carries forward to new chats. Auto review is the exception: it applies to the chat you switch. Permission presets covers how the choice is kept and where the default for new chats is set.
The Enable Full access? dialog explains what the mode changes:
Tick the acknowledgement I understand the risks and want to continue, then choose Enable Full access. The button stays disabled until the box is ticked, and Cancel keeps your previous mode.
The Enable Auto review (experimental)? dialog explains the trade:
Tick I understand these risks and want to continue, then choose Enable Auto review. The button stays disabled until the box is ticked, and Cancel keeps your previous mode.
When a step goes beyond the mode, the chat shows Waiting for approval and presents the request. Nothing runs until you answer. The choices:
Approvals covers the request card itself, and Your first task walks through the same choices; Chat with Oda covers the conversation surface.
A step that Auto review denies is never asked to you. The chat marks it Rejected by Auto review; opening it shows that the tool was not executed and the reason, and hidden inputs are not revealed. Auto review covers how the review decides.
Click the control in the message box that shows the current mode, for example Workspace Write, and pick another, or run /. Read Only and Workspace Write apply at once; Full access and Auto review ask you to confirm the risks first.
The control in the message box shows the current mode, for example Workspace Write. If the message box is narrow, the control can shrink to an icon; open it to see the full list of modes.
Full access is offered only while your DataMind account holds the permission for it. If it is not in the menu, ask your administrator; Manage DataMind Oda for your company shows where the permission is given. If the permission is removed, the mode leaves the list, and a chat that used it falls back to a normal mode.
No. Chats that are already open keep their own modes. The change does carry forward to new chats: while Full access is on, the next chat you start also begins in it, until you choose another mode.
Both risk dialogs tie their confirm button to the acknowledgement. Enable Full access and Enable Auto review stay disabled until you tick the box: I understand the risks and want to continue in the Full access dialog, I understand these risks and want to continue in the Auto review dialog. Tick it to enable the button, and Cancel applies nothing.
No. Allow once runs exactly one step, the one the request is about, and the chat keeps its mode. Nothing is remembered, so the next step that needs permission asks again.
Because you answered Allow edits for this chat. That answer is offered when the chat is Read Only and the step changes a file: the step runs, and the chat moves to Workspace Write, so later changes inside the workspace do not ask. You can choose another mode whenever you want.
The chat is in Auto review, and its review denied the step before it ran; you were not asked. Open the step to see the reason. Oda carries on with narrower work where it can; Auto review covers how the review decides.
An approval asks your permission for a step: you answer Allow once or reject it. A question asks you to choose, and one of its choices can be Skip; Answer Oda's questions covers those. Both stop the work until you answer.
