Bundled skills

Bundled skills come with Oda itself, and you use them like any other skill: Oda can load one on its own when a task matches its description, and you can run one yourself by typing / and its name. This page lists them, what each is for, and how they differ from the skills you add yourself.

Which skills come with Oda

SkillWhat it is for
skill-authoringGuidance for writing, testing, finding and installing skills. Oda follows it when you ask it to build or install a skill, and you can run it yourself.
office-docxWriting guidance for Word documents, including reports, letters and formatted tables.
office-pptxWriting guidance for PowerPoint presentations, including slide text, tables, images and charts.
office-xlsxWriting guidance for Excel workbooks, including cell values, formulas and formatting.
datamind-badgeThe optional badge for content made with Oda: the official "powered by DataMind" badge. Off by default.

The authoring guidance

skill-authoring is the guidance Oda works from when you ask it to build a skill or install one from the web, a folder or a .zip file, and you can run it yourself with /skill-authoring.

The rules it applies are the same ones your own skills follow, such as a short lowercase name that becomes the command. Create and install skills covers both flows, and Skill files (SKILL.md) describes the file format.

The Office skills

The three Office skills carry Oda's guidance for building Word, PowerPoint and Excel files. Each one brings the rules for its kind of file and its own checking tool, so the checks work wherever the app is installed, including in folders whose paths contain non-Latin characters.

The check reads the file's structure only. It does not render the document or calculate formula results, and older, encrypted or macro-enabled files need a conversion first. What each check covers, and how Oda builds each kind of file, is in Create and check Office documents.

The badge

datamind-badge is an optional bundled skill, and it is off by default. Turning it on is a choice made when Oda is installed, not a user setting; once it is on, it appears in your / menu as /datamind-badge and works like any other bundled skill.

The badge comes in one design: the official "powered by DataMind" badge, at 121 by 20 pixels. It cannot be restyled: its colour, logo and label are fixed, and there is no hosted badge service; the badge is a local image that comes with the skill. Oda adds it to content made with Oda when you ask for it, and when it prepares a pull request or merge request.

How bundled skills behave

Questions, answered

Can I edit or remove a bundled skill?

No. Bundled skills are read-only and are not part of your skills folder, so you cannot edit or delete them. To change what one does, make your own copy: create a skill of your own with the instructions you want. Where your copy and the bundled skill have the same name, yours takes precedence (Create and install skills).

How do I run a bundled skill?

Type / in the message box and pick the skill you want from the list, or type its name directly, for example /skill-authoring. Oda also loads a bundled skill by itself when your task matches its description, and bundled skills work exactly like your own (Skills: loading and running).

Why do I not see the badge skill?

The badge is off by default, and turning it on is a choice made when Oda is installed, not a user setting. Once it is on, it appears in your / menu as /datamind-badge.

Can I change the badge's look or size?

No. The badge comes in one design at 121 by 20 pixels, and its colour, logo and label are fixed. There is no hosted badge service either: the badge is a local image that comes with the skill.

What does the skill-authoring skill do?

It carries the guidance Oda uses when you ask it to build a skill or install one from the web, a folder or a .zip file, and you can run it yourself with /skill-authoring (Create and install skills).

Do the Office skills work in folders with non-Latin characters?

Yes. The Office skills and their checking tool work from folders whose names use non-Latin characters.

Will bundled skills change when Oda updates?

They ship with the app, and Oda reads each one fresh every time it loads it, so the bundled skills stay in step with your copy of Oda.

What is the difference between a bundled skill and one of my own?

Bundled skills come with Oda and stay as they are: they are read-only and live outside your skills folder. Your own skills live in your skills folder, where you can add, change and manage them (Manage your skills). In a chat both kinds work the same way.
