DataMind appearance (desktop)
In the DataMind Oda desktop app, your look comes from your DataMind account: Settings > Appearance offers a mode and a colour theme, and keeps both saved there. Under the title it says: Saved to your DataMind account, so DataMind Oda looks the same as DataMind in the browser.
In the web app this page is not shown; the look and the font size live in Settings > General (Appearance and font size).
Pick your mode
- Open Settings > Appearance in the DataMind Oda desktop app.
- Under Mode, pick Light, Dark or System.
- Oda applies the choice straight away and saves it to your DataMind account in the background.
- Light and Dark keep Oda in that look; System follows your computer's light or dark setting and changes when your computer changes.
- Picking a mode clears a colour theme you had chosen and returns Oda to the built-in palette.
- If a colour theme is deciding light or dark for you, no mode is checked; the section shows the hint
The selected color theme decides light or dark. Choosing a mode switches back to the built-in palette.
Pick a colour theme
- Under Color theme, pick a theme from the list.
- Oda applies it straight away and saves it to your DataMind account in the background.
The list runs in this order: DataMind Light, DataMind Dark, your themes, published themes, and lastly drafts of others.
- Picking DataMind Light or DataMind Dark works like picking a mode: Oda returns to the built-in look and clears your chosen colour theme.
- Your own themes and published themes can be chosen. Someone else's draft is listed but greyed out and cannot be selected until it is published:
Not published yet. Only published themes can be chosen.
- A theme saved without a name shows as
Untitled theme.
- While the list loads, the section shows
Loading color themes….
- If the theme you had is no longer offered, Oda keeps its name in the list with the check beside it; if Oda cannot find the theme at all, it returns to the built-in palette, with DataMind Light checked.
- A colour theme also carries the colours for charts, so charts use the theme's palette.
- If a later refresh of the list fails, the list you already have stays.
Keep your look with your account
- Both choices live on your DataMind account, so a change follows you: when you sign in on another computer with the desktop app, the same look comes back.
- Oda reads your saved appearance when the page opens, and reads it again when the connection returns and from time to time.
- Saves go one at a time; if you change things quickly, Oda keeps your last choice.
- Your account can also carry a palette from your company, as part of the account look.
- If you are signed out or Oda cannot read your account, the page is not shown. Oda keeps the mode you last had, but the account's colours stop applying until the account answers again.
- Signing out or pointing Oda at another server is covered on Your DataMind account.
When something does not load or save
A change that could not be saved is rolled back to your previous choice, and Oda tells you what happened:
- If the theme list cannot be read, the section shows
Could not load the color themes. with a Retry button that reads the list again.
- If reading the themes from your DataMind server fails, Oda shows
Could not read the color themes of your DataMind server. Try again in a moment.
- If a change cannot be saved, Oda puts your previous choice back and shows
Could not save the change to your DataMind account. Try again. A change made after your sign-in has ended is not kept either.
- If your saved appearance cannot be read, Oda shows
Could not read your DataMind preferences. and keeps the look you have.
- If the write of your account preferences fails, Oda shows
Could not save your DataMind preferences.
- If your account cannot take the theme you picked, the change is refused with
This color theme cannot be selected.
- If a message keeps appearing, Updates and troubleshooting lists it with what to do.
Questions, answered
Why is the Appearance page missing in the web app?
The page is part of the DataMind Oda desktop app, so the web app does not show it. In the web app, the look and the font size live in Settings > General: Appearance and font size.
What happens when I am signed out or Oda cannot reach my account?
The page is not shown while Oda cannot read your DataMind account. Oda keeps the mode you last had, but the account's colours stop applying; once the account answers again, the page and your saved look come back. Signing in is covered in Signing in and staying signed in.
Which colour themes can I choose?
The list opens with the built-in DataMind Light and DataMind Dark, then your themes and published themes; at the end come drafts of others, which cannot be chosen.
Can I pick someone else's draft theme?
No. Drafts are listed so you can see them, but the card is greyed out and cannot be selected until it is published: Not published yet. Only published themes can be chosen. Ask the theme's owner to publish it.
Why did my colour theme switch back when I picked a mode?
A mode and a colour theme are alternatives: picking a mode clears the colour theme you had chosen and returns Oda to the built-in palette. To use your theme again, pick it under Color theme.
My change could not be saved. What happens now?
Oda puts your previous choice back and shows Could not save the change to your DataMind account. Try again. Try again; if your sign-in has ended, sign in first, then repeat the change. If it keeps failing, check the connection from this computer to your DataMind server.
What does Untitled theme mean?
The theme was saved without a name, so Oda shows Untitled theme in its place.
The theme I was using is no longer offered. What does Oda show?
Oda keeps the theme's name in the list with the check beside it, so you can see what was applied. If Oda cannot find the theme at all, it returns to the built-in palette, with DataMind Light checked.
Do my choices follow me to another computer?
In the desktop app, yes: both are saved to your DataMind account, so when you sign in on another computer the same look comes back. It is the same look DataMind uses in the browser.
The theme list did not load. What can I do?
Choose Retry beside the message; Oda reads the list again. If it keeps failing, check the connection from this computer to your DataMind server, and try again later.
