Skills for DataMind Oda
A pushed skill is a skill you add for your company in DataMind OS, under Admin > Oda > Skills:
your colleagues run it in DataMind Oda with / and its name, or Oda loads it when a task matches.
Changes reach Oda users within 10 minutes; what colleagues see on their side is in
Memory, skills and connectors.
Push a skill
- Open Admin > Oda and go to the Skills tab.
- Click Add skill. The dialog opens on the Content tab; Access is the second tab.
- Enter a Name: lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens, up to 64 characters, for example
weekly-sales-report. Colleagues run the skill by typing / and this name, so it cannot change
after you add the skill.
- Enter a Description of up to 1,024 characters. Oda decides from this text whether to load the
skill by itself, so name the tasks it is for.
- Optionally add When to use (optional) guidance, also up to 1,024 characters.
- Optionally turn on Only when someone types /name if Oda should never load the skill on its own.
- Write the Instructions in Markdown, up to 100 KB. You can also click Load from SKILL.md to
fill the form from an existing skill file.
- On the Access tab, choose the Mode and who receives the skill; both are explained below.
- Click Add skill. The message reads
/{name} saved. Oda users get the change within 10 minutes.
Choose who gets a skill
Mode decides how your later edits work, and it is fixed once the skill is added. To change it,
remove the skill and add it again.
- Managed:
Your edits reach everyone. Removing it removes it from everyone. The company keeps control.
- Install once:
Each user gets a copy they own. Later edits don't reach them.
Audience decides who receives the skill:
- Leave Only for specific roles off and everyone with Oda gets the skill.
- Turn it on and pick one or more roles with Pick roles…; saving without picking a role is refused
with
Pick at least one role.
- If every role you picked becomes inactive or is removed, the skill reaches nobody. Its row warns
No active roles, so nobody gets it, and it does not fall back to everyone; open the skill, pick
active roles and save.
How changes reach your colleagues
- New skills and edits reach Oda users within 10 minutes.
- A Managed skill updates for everyone who has it; removing it takes it away from everyone.
- An Install once skill stays as each colleague installed it: later edits do not reach people who
already have a copy, and only later installs get them. Removing the skill leaves the copies people
already installed.
- Your colleagues run the skill with / and its name; Using skills shows their side.
Edit or remove a skill
- Each row shows the command as
/{name} and a summary: Managed or Install once,
Only with /name when set, and the roles it targets, or Everyone with Oda.
- Click Edit on the row to change the description, guidance, instructions or the
Only when someone types /name setting, then click Save. The name itself cannot change; to use
a different name, add the skill again under the new name and remove the old one.
- Click Remove on the row and confirm Remove in the dialog. The message reads
/{name} removed.
- A name is never used twice, even after the skill is removed: a new skill cannot take an old skill's name.

Who can manage skills
- Opening the Oda page needs View DataMind Oda Settings; adding, editing and removing skills
needs Modify DataMind Oda Settings. Without it, you see the list but no add buttons or row actions.
- Both come with the DataMind Oda Settings Viewer and DataMind Oda Settings Manager sets.
Manage DataMind Oda for your company shows where to give them to a role.
Questions, answered
How do my colleagues run a skill I added?
They type / and its name in a DataMind Oda chat, for example /weekly-sales-report. Oda can also
load the skill by itself when a task matches its description, unless you turned on
Only when someone types /name. Using skills shows their side.
Can I give a skill to only some roles?
Yes. On the Access tab, turn on Only for specific roles and pick the roles; those roles get the
skill. Leave it off and everyone with Oda gets it.
What does "Only when someone types /name" do?
It keeps Oda from loading the skill on its own: the skill runs only when a colleague runs the command.
Leave it off to let Oda pick the skill for tasks that match its description.
When do my edits reach people who already have the skill?
Within 10 minutes. A Managed skill updates for everyone who has it. An Install once skill stays
as each person installed it: your edits do not reach people who already have a copy, and only later
installs get them.
What happens to colleagues who have a skill when I remove it?
For a Managed skill, it is taken away from everyone. For Install once, the copies people already
installed stay on their computers.
Why does a skill I saved reach nobody?
Every role you picked is now inactive or gone, so the skill reaches no one. Its row warns
No active roles, so nobody gets it; open the skill, pick active roles and save. It never falls back to
everyone on its own.
I removed a skill. Can I reuse its name?
No. A skill's name is never used twice, even after removal: adding another skill with it is refused with
A skill with this name already exists or existed before.
Can I add a skill from an existing file?
Yes. In the dialog, click Load from SKILL.md and choose a skill file; it fills the form from the
file, and you can adjust the fields before saving.
What are the limits for a skill?
Up to 64 skills in the company at a time. A Name uses lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens,
up to 64 characters; Description and When to use take up to 1,024 characters each;
Instructions take up to 100 KB.
