Use this page when Slides shows a message you do not understand, or when an action fails. Find the message below, read what it means and follow the step.
Slides shows the server's own reason first: a refusal arrives as a sentence, often naming the role, file or number at fault, and passes through as it was written. Only when there is no server sentence does the generic text in the tables below appear. When several problems arrive together, their sentences can show joined on one line.

<tag> chart is not supported and was skipped. | A plot kind Slides does not draw, such as 3D, radar or bubble. Rebuild the chart with a supported type. |
| chart had no data series and was skipped. or a chart without its data part was skipped. | The plot held no series, or the chart's data part is missing or external. Rebuild the chart from its numbers. |
trailing zeros cached for "<series>" were imported as blanks so the plot stops where the data does; type 0 into the chart grid if those points are genuinely zero. | A run of zeros at the end of a line or area series was treated as a cached placeholder, not data. Type 0 into the chart grid if those points are real. |
an entrance effect (preset <id>) was approximated as a fade. | An entrance Slides cannot match was replaced with the fade; fades and fly-in directions convert exactly. Re-apply the entrance in the editor if it matters. |
| exit animations were not imported. | Exit, emphasis and motion-path animations are not part of the deck model. Rebuild with entrance effects where possible. |
the "<name>" slide transition is not supported and was removed. | The transition has no equivalent in Slides, so the slide cuts instead. Add a transition in the editor if you need one. |
| group rotation was approximated by rotating each shape in place. | A rotated group's children were each rotated, so the composition is close but not exact. Check the group on the slide and adjust. |
| a mirrored group was imported unflipped. | A flipped group lost its mirroring. Flip the members in the editor if it matters. |
a "<preset>" connector was approximated as a straight line. | The connector preset has no equivalent; it was drawn as a straight line. Redraw it with the editor's line or arrow shapes. |
shape "<preset>" is not supported and was skipped. or shape "<preset>" was approximated as a rectangle. | A shape preset with no equivalent: skipped when it carried no text, kept as a rectangle when it carried text. Rebuild or restyle it in the editor. |
| a shape without a position was skipped. or a graphic frame without a position was skipped. | The shape, table, chart or graphic frame stated no usable frame. Check the source slide, then add or rebuild the object in the editor. |
| a non-linear gradient was approximated as a linear one., picture fill on a shape is not supported; the shape was left unfilled. or a pattern fill was flattened to a solid colour. | A fill Slides cannot carry was reduced or dropped. Restyle the fill in the editor; for the picture fill, place a picture behind the shape instead. |
| a picture without a position was skipped., a picture without embedded data (linked or empty) was skipped., a linked (non-embedded) picture was skipped. or a picture's data was missing from the file and it was skipped. | The picture has no frame, points at a file instead of carrying it, or its bytes are absent. Insert the picture again in the editor. |
picture format ".<ext>" cannot be shown in a browser and was skipped. | The picture's format cannot render; PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, ICO, AVIF, SVG and WebP do. Convert the picture to one of those in PowerPoint and import again. |
| a flipped shape was imported without its mirroring. or a flipped picture was imported without its mirroring. | The flip was dropped (mirroring is invisible for lines and rectangles, so those do not warn). Flip the element in the editor. |
| Table cell colours were dropped; tables take the deck table style instead. or PowerPoint table styles were approximated with the deck table look. | The deck's table style takes over; per-cell fills and the source style table are not read (bold and alignment survive). Restyle the table in the editor if needed. |
| merged table cells were flattened onto the plain grid. | Merges were dropped and every cell keeps its grid slot. Rebuild the merge by hand if it matters. |
| Decorative shapes on slide layouts and masters are not imported; only slide content is. | Layout and master decoration is out of scope for the conversion; stated once for the whole deck. Place the shapes you need on the slides themselves. |
| a gradient background was flattened to its first colour. or a picture background is not supported; the theme background was used. | A slide background that cannot be carried was reduced to a flat colour or the theme background. Set a solid background, or place the picture on the slide. |
| Bulleted and numbered list styling was flattened to plain "•" markers. or Mixed fonts inside one text box were flattened to the box font. | List levels become plain markers (indents stay), and a text box keeps one font (size and colour changes within runs survive). Restyle in the editor if it matters. |
Font "<name>" may not be available; it was imported as written. | The font is not one Slides knows; the name is kept, so each viewer's machine decides how it renders. Switch the text to a deck font in the editor if the look matters. |
a table holds more rows than its frame can show even at the smallest readable size; <n> rows stay hidden. | The table auto-fit ran out of room and the count names how many rows the slide does not show. Shorten the table, set a larger deck size, or split it across slides. |
| a chart reached under a table, so it was trimmed to sit clear of it instead of being drawn underneath. or a chart and a table overlap in a way no trim can separate without costing the chart more than half its size, so both were imported exactly where PowerPoint had them. | An overlapping chart was trimmed clear of the table, or kept as-is when no safe trim existed. Check the slide and move things if needed. |
| Large images were compressed to fit the presentation size budget. | Pictures live inside the deck document, so the largest were re-encoded as JPEG to keep it saveable; SVG and GIF are exempt. Compress pictures in PowerPoint before importing if quality matters. |

This presentation has charts bound to <roles>, so it cannot be published to <roles>. Those recipients would see empty charts. | Publish only to the roles that the charts are bound to. |
<user> does not hold <roles>, so the charts in this presentation would not resolve for them. | The person does not hold the role the charts need. Ask for the role first, or do not share the deck with that person. |

Could not subscribe anyone, Some subscriptions failed or N of M could not be created. | Some or all of the subscriptions were not created. Check for duplicates, and check that an email channel is set up. |
| No default email integration is configured. Ask an administrator to set one up first. | Subscriptions need a default email channel. An administrator can add one in Notifications. |
| This user is already subscribed to this presentation. (or You are, This role is or This email is in place of This user is) | The recipient already has a subscription. Edit the existing subscription instead. |
| Your account has no email on file to send the test to. | Add an email address to your profile, then send the test again. See Your profile and preferences. |
| Test email sent to you and Check your inbox. Recipients were not emailed. | The test went to your address only. If nothing arrives, check the email address on your profile. |
| Test email failed and The test email could not be sent. | The test did not send. Ask an administrator to check the email channel. |
| Error and The subscription could not be updated. or Could not unsubscribe. | The change did not save. To change another person's subscription, you need Manage Everyone's Slide Subscriptions. |
| No recipients resolved (deleted user, empty role, or deactivated account). | Nothing was sent. This appears in the send log of the subscription. Edit the subscription so that it names recipients who can receive the deck. The send log is in Audit, sign-in and notification logs. |
| The subscription list could not be loaded. | The list did not load. Click Try again; it retries in place. This message appears on the deck's Existing tab and on the Subscriptions view. |
| You do not have permission to publish this presentation | Your roles do not include Publish Deck, so the Publish button is disabled. Ask an administrator for Publish Deck. |
| Nobody yet. Anyone in the workspace this deck lives in can already see it; publishing is for reaching people outside it. | The deck has no published shares yet; everyone in its workspace already has access. Add users or roles if people outside the workspace need the deck. |
No user or role matches "<query>". | The search found no user or role (in the publish dialog, or in the subscription recipients picker). Check the spelling, or pick a role; in the subscriptions dialog you can also add a person by email address. |
| Everyone who can be added already has access. | The publish search can add nobody, because everyone available is already on the list. Change the access level of an existing row, or remove a row first. |
| You do not have permission to subscribe to this presentation | The disabled reason on the Subscribe button; none of your roles carry a subscribe permission. Ask an administrator for Subscribe to Slides or Subscribe Others to Slides. |
| Subscribe 3 | The subscribe button counts the recipients you drafted in Others mode; one subscription is created per recipient. Check the count before pressing; remove a row to lower it. |
You'll get "<deck title>" by email. | The subscription you created for yourself is set, and its schedule is shown on its row. |
| Switch to Others to add people, roles, or email addresses. | In Myself mode only you can be subscribed. Switch to Others (needs a subscribe-others permission) to add recipients. |
| Everyone is already added. | Every candidate user and role is already on the list of drafts. Add a missing person by email address instead. |
Sends daily at 09:00 (and siblings, such as Sends every weekday at 09:00) or a row reading Daily at <time>, Every weekday at <time>, Every <Day> at <time> or Monthly on the <ordinal> at <time> | The schedule you set, shown live in the dialog and on the row; it updates as you change Frequency, Time and day, and a missing time reads --:--. Use Edit subscription to change it. |
| Shorter months send on their last day. | A day-of-month 29, 30 or 31 is clamped forward to the last day of shorter months. Keep the day at or below 28 for a fixed date. |
| Active, Paused or Failing | A subscription row's status pill; paused wins over a recorded error, so a paused subscription is not shown as failing. Read the failure notice on a Failing row, or resume a Paused one with its toggle. |
Next run <formatted>, Next run pending or Paused | The next-run chip; times use the server's clock, and Next run pending shows until the next run time is known. Compare against the server time shown in the dialog. |
Last sent <elapsed> or Not sent yet | When this subscription last delivered an email, or that it has not delivered one yet. Use Send a test email to me to check delivery to yourself. |
| Edit subscription, Send a test email to me, Unsubscribe, Pause subscription or Resume subscription | The row's manage toolbar; the toggle acts immediately, the test sends only to you, and unsubscribe asks for confirmation. A read-only row shows no controls. |
| Unsubscribe? | Removing the subscription is immediate after you confirm, and the recipient then stops receiving the deck. To change the recipient instead, unsubscribe and subscribe again. |
| Last delivery failed | The subscription's last send did not go through. Open View details (popover Delivery error) to read the error, fix its cause, then Send test to me. |
| Will retry once at the next check., Next attempt at the scheduled run. and The error clears after the next successful scheduled delivery. | One automatic retry is scheduled at the next poll; if it fails too, the next attempt is the subscription's next scheduled run, and the Failing state stays until a later delivery succeeds. Fix the cause before then. |
| No subscriptions yet and Nobody gets this presentation by email yet. Set up a schedule to deliver it to yourself or your team. | The dialog's Existing tab is empty. Press Create subscription to make the first one. |
No presentation or subscriber matches "<search>"., Nobody is subscribed to anything yet. or No subscriptions yet. Open a presentation and choose "Subscribe to email" to get it by email. | The Subscriptions view's three empty cases: a search miss, nobody subscribed on the platform, and nothing of your own. Clear the search, or open a deck and subscribe. |
| [Test] (the subject prefix) | Test emails carry this prefix so they are distinguishable from a real delivery. Test sends go only to your address. |
<email> does not hold <roles>, so the SQL-bound elements in this presentation would not resolve for them. | The recipient lacks the roles the deck's live queries are bound to; the send still goes out and the warning is recorded. Give the recipient the roles, or expect the SQL-bound elements to show no data for them. |

| The AI for this presentation could not be opened. | Reopen the deck. If it still fails, check that you hold Use Slides AI. |
| You do not have permission to use AI for Slides. Ask an administrator for the "Use Slides AI" permission. | Ask an administrator to grant Use Slides AI to one of your roles. |
| this deck has a newer version on the server, so saving is paused and anything edited now would be discarded. Tell the author to refresh the deck before asking for changes. | The AI refuses every edit while the deck is in a save conflict; the sentence is written to relay to the author. Resolve the conflict in the save panel, then ask the AI again. |
| the author stopped this run, so nothing was applied. | The run was stopped from the panel while it was in flight; none of its changes were applied. Ask again if you still want the change. |
| No change: the deck already held every value asked for., The deck was already in that order. or Those slides already carried that transition. | The request matched what the deck already had, so nothing changed and no undo step was added. Ask for a different change if that was not what you meant. |
| Move or shrink one of the two elements so they no longer share pixels, or rebuild the slide from a layout and let the engine place them. or Shorten the copy, or split it across two slides. Do not shrink the frame. | A deck check found elements sharing pixels or text taller than its box; these are the repair sentences attached to those findings. Fix what it names, then ask for another check. |
| Added 1 slide(s) at position 2 of 2., Updated 2 slide(s) in one step. or Deleted 2 element(s) from 2 slide(s). | The AI reports what it changed (counts vary with the run); a batch lands as one undo step. Ctrl+Z restores it if you change your mind. |

| The picture is cropped, so Fit is not applied. Reset the crop to choose a fit again. | The image section, for a cropped picture | The picture keeps its crop, and a fit applies to the whole picture. Click Reset to show the whole picture again, then choose the fit. See Images, video and deck assets. |
| The company logo is a live binding, so it is never cropped and Bound to the company logo. | The image section, for the company logo | The logo follows the one uploaded for the whole company, so it is never cropped; replacing the picture turns it into an ordinary image and breaks that link. To change the logo itself, ask an administrator. |
| Another element on this slide already answers to "{key}". Same-slide keys must be unique for a morph to know which element travels, so give one of them its own key. | The Morph section | Two elements on one slide share a morph key, so the morph cannot tell them apart. Give one of them its own key, or clear the pairing. See Animations and transitions. |
| Dash march walks a stroke that is already dashed or dotted, so this element holds still. On a shape, set Dashes in the Shape section to give it one. | The Animation section | Dash march needs a dashed or dotted stroke to walk along. On a shape, set Dashes in the Shape section, or choose another motion. See Animations and transitions. |
| The slide you are on hides its number (Slide section), so changes here will not show on it. or The first slide is unnumbered while "Skip title" is on, so preview changes on another slide. | The Page numbers section | The change is saved, but the current slide does not show it. Check the slide's own Slide section, or move to another slide to see the change. See Design a deck. |
| Something in this deck reads data as this role. The deck can only live in, be published to, or be copied into a workspace for that role, or the personal workspace of someone who holds all of them. | The required-roles block | The deck's live elements run as this role, so the deck is restricted to places where that role resolves. Move, publish or copy it to a workspace of that role, or to the personal workspace of someone who holds it. See Fill slides from your data. |
| No company logo has been uploaded yet. An administrator can add one in System configuration. | The image section, for Insert company logo | No company logo is stored for this instance, so the button is disabled and the deck-level logo block draws nothing. Ask an administrator to upload the company logo in System configuration. |
| Min is above Max, so the axis runs backwards. Swap them. | The chart's Axis section | The pinned minimum sits above the pinned maximum, so the value axis runs backwards. Swap the two values, or clear the fields to return the axis ends to automatic. |
| Content rescales with the slide. Sizes run 300-3840px wide and 481-3840px tall - below that floor the slide grid cannot compose, so smaller values are refused. | The Deck section, under Width and Height | A typed size below the floor snaps to the minimum instead of being accepted. Pick a size within the range; the smallest is 300 wide and 481 tall. |
| Not paired yet: nothing on the neighbouring slides answers to this key. | The Morph section | The element's key has no match on the previous or next slide, so a Morph will not move it. Choose its counterpart in Pair with, duplicate the slide (the copy keeps each element's pairing), or give the counterpart the same Custom key. See Animations and transitions. |
Greyed out actions are the ones your permissions do not cover. The menu shows this note under the actions: Greyed out actions are ones your permissions do not cover. Ask an administrator for the permission. See Slides permissions.
This deck could not be opened means the deck was deleted, or you no longer have access to it. Click Try again first: it reloads the deck. If it still does not open, ask the owner to share the deck with you again. See Publish and share.
Another person's personal workspace never accepts a presentation, so that destination is greyed out in Move presentation with its reason written under it. Choose your own workspace or a role workspace; to give the person access without moving the deck, publish it to them instead. See Workspaces, folders and your decks.
Click Retry. If you see This deck changed elsewhere, someone saved a newer version: choose Overwrite to keep your edits as the newest version, or Revert to load theirs. Read the warning in the Opening and saving section above before you choose Revert. See Saving and version history.
When an export cannot include a picture, the warnings name it, for example Image "{fileName}" is not among this deck's assets, so it is not in the exported file. Open Deck assets and check that the picture is listed, then export again. See Export and import.
If the message reads This file is too large to import: its pictures are stored inside the presentation. Open the deck it came from, export it again, and import the new file instead., the file carries its pictures inside it. Open the deck it came from, export it again as a deck file, and import the new file. For PowerPoint files, large pictures are compressed during the conversion instead, and the notes say so; the refusal reasons are listed in Import from PowerPoint. See Export and import.
When a picture cannot be moved into the deck's assets, it stays inside the presentation file, and the message confirms nothing was lost: 1 picture could not be stored as a deck asset and stayed inside the presentation file. Nothing was lost. (with several pictures, N pictures in place of 1 picture). Keep working; every picture still shows. See Images, video and deck assets.
Check three things. First, that you hold the role the chart runs as. Second, the refresh mode: When the deck opens, When presenting starts or Only when refreshed by hand. Third, the query itself, using the messages in the Live data table above. For more on binding, see Fill slides from your data.
The show could not refresh an element's query, so it keeps going with the values saved with the deck, and the message names how many elements are affected. Nothing is lost; after the show, check the role and the query for those elements. See Present.
Usually the email channel is missing. If you see No default email integration is configured. Ask an administrator to set one up first., an administrator must add a default email channel in Notifications. If you see Could not subscribe, read the reason shown under it. For the rest, see Email subscriptions.
No, this does not happen by accident. If the share list cannot be read, the dialog blocks saving and warns that saving now would remove everyone, so close it, reopen it and wait for the list before you change anything. See Publish and share.
It retries the list or view it sits on, in place, without leaving the page: the presentations feed on the Slides dashboard, a workspace opened as its own view, the subscriptions list in Email subscriptions, and the Subscriptions view for everyone's subscriptions. See Workspaces, folders and your decks and Email subscriptions.
