The assistant's step cards

Every step the assistant takes appears in the conversation as its own card: a file it reads, a search it runs, a page it opens. The cards build up under the reply as the work happens, and each one opens to show what its step received and returned. For the panel that holds them, see The AI assistant; the cards of a particular area are described in Connector operations and data access in chat and Building custom visuals with the assistant. A Mind's own chat shows its own set of cards: see Ask a Mind.

What the status labels mean

A card reports where its step stands with a short label:

The card's colour also follows the outcome: a step that only reads keeps the default colour, a step that wrote a new file or folder turns green, a deletion carries the warning colour, and a failure turns red.

A change that needs your decision does not settle on its own: while it waits, the approval card takes the step's place. See Approve or reject connector changes.

File cards

Beside a connector, the assistant works with the connector's files. Those steps have their own cards:

Web cards

Two cards cover work outside the platform:

Steps without a card of their own

Not every step has a card of its own. A step of a kind the panel has no special card for uses a plain card instead, titled with the step's name turned into words, and holding up to three sections:

A step that arrives without a name reads Tool call. Builder Minds work through a much larger set of steps of their own; see Warehouse Builder and Lake Builder.

Questions, answered

What do "Running", "Failed", "Skipped" and "Done" mean?

They report where a step stands: Running that it is still going, Done that it finished, Failed that it did not finish, and Skipped that it never ran. A failed card turns red and shows the reason when the step reported one.

How do I see what a step did?

Click the card's header to fold out what it holds, or focus it and press Enter or Space, then open the sections inside. Details sit in labelled sections such as New content; steps without a card of their own open Input, Output and Error sections instead.

Where is the Copy button on a card?

It appears when the section it belongs to is open: a copyable section shows Copy once opened, and the control briefly reads Copied after the copy. Get file content also carries its own Copy file content control on the header.

Why is a card's title shimmering?

The step is still running; the shimmer stops when it finishes. Its details fill in while it works, so a card can show only its header at first and grow as the result arrives.

What is the plain card with Input, Output and Error sections?

That step has no card of its own, so it falls back to the plain card. It shows what the step was given (Input), what it returned (Output) and what went wrong (Error), with Error open by itself when the step failed. A step that arrived without a name reads Tool call.

What does "Show all" do on a card?

It opens the rest of a preview that started folded. Once open, the control reads Show less and folds the preview back.

What does "case-insensitive" mean on a "Grep files" card?

The search ignored the difference between capital and small letters, so both spellings counted as matches.

What do "-3 / +5" mean on a "Replace in file" card?

The replaced text counted 3 lines, and the text that took its place counts 5. Open the card to see both texts: - Old holds what was replaced and + New what replaced it.

How do I open the page a "Read webpage" step read?

Use Open page on the card's header, and the page opens in a new tab. To read a little of the page without leaving, open the card itself.

Does "Get file content" show the whole file?

Yes. Open the card to read the file; a long file scrolls inside the card, and Copy file content copies the whole file, not only the part on screen.
