QStudio

QStudio is a free SQL GUI for running SQL scripts and charting results. Use this page to connect it to your DataMind OS data: you copy a ready-made JDBC URL from the Universe page, paste it into QStudio and sign in with your DataMind OS account.

Copy the connection string

  1. In the sidebar, click Universe, then scroll to the Integrations block.
  2. Find the QStudio tile.
  3. Click Copy String. The button shows Copied for two seconds and a Copied to clipboard message confirms the copy.
Note

Copy the string from a computer. On a phone, DataMind OS opens Minds instead of Universe.

The string is built when you click the button, using the address you opened DataMind OS with. If that address changes, copy the string again.

Connect QStudio

These steps happen in QStudio, not in DataMind OS. Menu names depend on your QStudio version, so use QStudio's own help if a name differs.

  1. Add a ClickHouse connection and paste the copied URL into the field for the JDBC URL.
  2. Enter your DataMind OS email as the user name.
  3. Enter your DataMind OS password as the password.
  4. Connect. The URL names the database information_schema, so QStudio opens that database first.

The copied URL holds no sign-in details, so QStudio asks for your email and password. To see the Host and Port on their own, use Connection Settings. See Connection settings.

What the copied URL contains

The URL has one of two forms, depending on how your server is set up:

SettingWhat it doesDefault
PrefixThe copied URL starts with jdbc:ch:.jdbc:ch:
ProtocolWhether the connection uses https or http. Your server decides.Set by your server
HostThe address you used to open DataMind OS, without a path. The address you opened DataMind OS with
PortThe port your server exposes for client tools.Set by your server
DatabaseThe database QStudio opens first.information_schema
User and passwordNot in the URL. You enter your DataMind OS email and password in QStudio.Your account

Which URL to use

The Connection Settings panel offers its own JDBC Connection String for Java-based tools. It starts with jdbc:clickhouse: and does not name https or http. For QStudio, use the string copied from the tile: it starts with jdbc:ch: and names the protocol your server uses.

Permissions and data access

Any signed-in user can copy the QStudio string. No special permission is needed.

What QStudio can read depends on your roles: the Lake and Warehouse data your roles allow, the same data you query in the Editor. See SQL dialect and data scope and Roles and permissions.

Limits and edge cases

Questions, answered

Which URL should I use, the one on the tile or the one in Connection Settings?

Use the URL from the Copy String button on the QStudio tile. The JDBC Connection String in Connection Settings starts with jdbc:clickhouse: and does not name https or http. See Connection settings for what the panel shows.

Where do my email and password go?

Enter your DataMind OS email as the user name and your DataMind OS password as the password, both inside QStudio. The copied URL contains neither. If you change your password later, update it in QStudio as well.

Do I need to change http to https in the URL?

No. The copied URL already uses the protocol your server is set up for. Change it only when your administrator tells you to.

Can I share the copied URL with a colleague?

Yes. It holds the server address, the port and the database name only, with no user name and no password. A colleague can paste the same URL and sign in with their own DataMind OS account.

Why does the host in my URL differ from the one I expected?

The host comes from the address you used to open DataMind OS. Open DataMind OS at the address your team uses, then copy the string again.

Which database does QStudio open first?

information_schema, the database named in the URL. To work with other data, choose another database in QStudio, or write the database name in front of the table name in your SQL.

Can QStudio chart my results?

The QStudio tile describes QStudio as a free SQL GUI for running SQL scripts and charting results. To chart and share results inside DataMind OS, use the Editor. See Charts and pivot.
