Cells show their values in different ways depending on the kind of column: plain text, a date, a checkbox, a coloured badge, or one or more role names. This page describes each kind, the display formats and the empty and locked states, as they appear in any data grid across DataMind OS.
| Cell | What it shows | What you can do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Text | The value as text. Long values are cut off with an ellipsis, or wrap over several lines where the table wraps text. | Double-click to edit. While you edit, the cell suggests values already used in the column. |
| Text box | An input that is always ready to type in, with no double-click. | Type a value, or pick one of the column's options. It saves when you pick an option or click away. |
| Date | The date as DD/MM/YYYY, for example 15/01/2025. A datetime column shows the time of day as well. | Double-click to open the Date Slicer and pick another day. |
| Checkbox | A checkbox, ticked when its value is true. | Click it to change the value where the table allows editing; the change saves straight away, with no edit mode. A disabled box means the cell is not editable. |
| Status | A coloured badge that stands for a known status word, such as Active or Pending. | Read the badge. The words and colours are listed under Status badges below. |
| Roles | One badge per role, with a small icon for the kind of access the role gives. | Read the badges, or open the full list from +N more. See Role badges below. |
| User | A small avatar and the person's name. | Read it. |
| A mail icon and the email address. | Read it. | |
| Value and label | Two lines: the value on top and its label underneath. | Read both lines. |
| Plain text | The value as text, with no suggestions. | Read it; tables use it for values that are shown, not edited. |
| Row expander | In a table with nested rows, a small + or - box in the first column. | Click it to open or close the row. Hovering reads Expand row or Collapse row. Leaf rows keep the indent without a box. |
To change a value, see Edit cells and unsaved changes; to select and copy cells, see Select, copy and paste cells.
A status column shows a coloured badge instead of a plain word. These are the values the grid knows:
| Value | Badge |
|---|---|
| active, or true | Active |
| inactive, or false | Inactive |
| pending | Pending |
| completed | Completed |
| failed | Failed |
| success | Success |
| error | Error |
| warning | Warning |
| info | Info |
An empty cell is blank by default. In Editor results a null value reads NULL in italics, and other tables can turn that indicator on. Either way, the cell holds no value.
Decimal values show with two decimal places and a comma for thousands: 1299.456, for example, shows as 1,299.46.
Only the values in the table above get a coloured badge. Any other value shows exactly as it is stored, and a cell with no value reads Unknown.
The cell is locked and cannot be changed. Point at the icon to read the reason; if the column gives no reason of its own, the tooltip reads System columns can't be modified.
The box is disabled because the cell is read-only or locked, so the table does not allow edits there. Where the cell is editable, the box saves your change at once.
Edited cells show a tinted background until the change is saved, and selected cells and rows are highlighted. For saving, see Edit cells and unsaved changes.
Point at the +N more badge. It opens All Roles (N) with every role, each marked Admin access or Read-only access.
A lock icon marks a role with admin access; an eye icon marks a read-only role.
The cell found no name and no email for the person. When either one is present, the cell shows it instead.
It is the label half of a value and label cell, such as a code with its name below it. A missing half reads No value or No label.
