The Dependants tab of a dictionary's window lists everything that uses the dictionary: other tables, transformations, Minds, presentations, semantic models and API data-access grants. Check it before you change or drop the dictionary, so you know what your change can affect. Its mirror, Dictionary dependencies, lists the objects the dictionary depends on.
For what each kind can be, see Dependants: what uses a table.
Click a row to open the object it names. What opens depends on the kind:
Some rows do not open: rows that stand for objects you cannot access are counts, not links, and a grant row has nothing to open.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Dictionary Not Created with Please save the dictionary first to view its dependants | The dictionary is not saved yet, so there is nothing to check. | Save the dictionary (see Dictionaries), then open the tab again. |
| No dependants found with This dictionary is not currently used by any downstream objects. | The check ran and found nothing that uses the dictionary. | Nothing; the dictionary is not in use. |
| Failed to load dependants with Retry | The list could not load; the reason appears below the heading. | Click Retry; if it keeps failing, check again later. |
A check that fails never shows the empty state. If part of the check could not run, the tab shows the Dependants could not be determined notice: "DataPrism dependants could not be determined because the check failed. Acting on the assumption that this table is unused may be unsafe." Treat the list as incomplete and check again later.
The dictionary has not been saved yet, so there is nothing to check before it exists. Save the dictionary first; the tab lists dependants once it has a saved record.
No. The check ran and found nothing that uses the dictionary: This dictionary is not currently used by any downstream objects. There is nothing to fix. A failed check shows its own message or notice instead of this state.
Click the pencil on the Mind row; its tooltip reads Start new chat, and a new chat with the Mind opens. The row itself does not chat: it opens the Mind's Sources when you can open the Mind's settings panel, and starts a chat when you cannot.
Those objects sit outside your access, so the tab shows only how many there are, never their names, and the rows are not clickable. They still use the dictionary, so a change or a drop can affect them even though you cannot see them. Ask their owners before you continue.
A load failure shows Failed to load dependants with the reason below it and a Retry button. Click Retry to load the list again; if it keeps failing, see Troubleshooting.
The row reads the connector's name, then the grant's name, joined by a middle dot. It stands for an ANY API connector that may read the dictionary's data through that grant, and nothing opens from the row. See Connect any API.
Nothing in the list is removed with the dictionary. Drop deletes the data and keeps the definition, and the objects that use the dictionary can break until you fix them or deploy again. Review this tab before you drop or change the dictionary.
The Dependencies tab lists the objects the dictionary depends on. See Dictionary dependencies.
