Group, order and filter chats
The View options menu decides how the chat lists in the sidebar are laid out: how chats are grouped, the order they appear in, and whether archived chats show. This page covers those choices and what Oda remembers; adding and managing workspaces is covered in Manage workspaces and chats.
Change how the sidebar shows chats
- In the sidebar's Workspaces header, choose View options.
- Pick the choices you want; each list follows them.
Group by decides how chats are laid out:
- Workspace (the default): your chats sit under a row for each workspace.
- Folder tree: a workspace nests inside the workspace whose folder contains it.
- One list: every chat sits in a single flat list, under the Chats header.
Order by decides what orders each list:
- Last updated (the default): chats are ordered by your latest message, newest first; two chats that changed at the same moment keep a steady order.
- Manual: the list keeps the order you see, and you can drag chats to rearrange them.
Filter sessions decides which chats show:
- By default, archived chats are hidden.
- Show archived brings archived chats back into their places.
- Archived only shows archived chats alone.
- To return to the default, choose the archived filter that is already selected once more; the lists hide archived chats again.
What Oda remembers
- Your grouping, order and filter are saved on your computer, so the sidebar opens the way you left it.
- Choosing Manual freezes the order that is on screen at that moment; switching to Last updated discards any saved manual order. Choosing Manual again later freezes the order then on screen.
- Dragging a chat or a workspace saves the full order and selects Manual on its own.
Pinning and the order
- Pinning brings a chat to the front of its group (or of Ungrouped) and of the flat list.
- Unpinning leaves it in its saved place.
Questions, answered
Where is the View options menu?
In the sidebar's Workspaces header; when the list is flat, that header reads Chats. The menu holds Group by, Order by and Filter sessions.
What does Folder tree do?
It nests a workspace inside the workspace whose folder contains it. Inside a workspace, the workspaces nested in it come before its own chats.
What does One list do?
It shows every chat in a single flat list, under the Chats header, with the workspace rows gone.
What does the sidebar show before I change anything?
Chats grouped by Workspace, ordered by Last updated, with archived chats hidden. Change any of these from View options.
Does Oda remember my view choices?
Yes. Your grouping, order and filter are saved on your computer, and the sidebar opens the way you left it.
What happens to a manual order if I switch back to Last updated?
It is discarded: chats are ordered by your latest message again. Choosing Manual later freezes the order then on screen; the old arrangement is not restored.
What happens to the order when I pin a chat?
Pinning brings the chat to the front of its group (or of Ungrouped) and of the flat list. Unpinning leaves it in its saved place.
How do I hide archived chats again?
Choose the archived filter that is selected once more: Show archived or Archived only. The lists return to the default view, with archived chats hidden. To bring an archived chat back, see Your chats in the sidebar.
Can I group one workspace differently from the others?
No. Group by, Order by and Filter sessions are single choices for the whole sidebar; every list follows them.
Does dragging switch the list to Manual order?
Yes. Dragging a chat or a workspace saves the full order and selects Manual on its own; you do not need to pick it first.
