A shared chat on the web

A chat someone shares from DataMind Oda also opens in a web browser. The link shows a read-only copy of the conversation, with its tool calls, images, files and the pages Oda built. You read the copy here; to carry on the work, continue the chat in DataMind Oda.

Open a shared chat

  1. Open the link you were sent. While the copy loads, the page shows Loading conversation.
  2. The copy opens read-only: the header marks it Read-only, and you can read it and download its files, but you cannot reply or change anything.

What the copy shows

Download a file

  1. Under Files, find the file you need. Each row shows the file's name and its size, in B, KB, MB or GB (a file of 1024 bytes reads 1.0 KB); a file whose size was not recorded shows none.
  2. Choose Download. The file downloads under the name the share provides, or under the name shown in the list; a long name is shortened in the list, with the full name in its tooltip.
  3. While the file downloads, only its row is disabled and shows a spinner; the other rows stay usable.

If a download fails, the page shows Couldn't download the file, with the message from the server when one can be read, and The file could not be downloaded. Try again in a moment. otherwise.

Continue the chat in DataMind Oda

The copy is read-only, so the conversation continues in DataMind Oda. Open Oda and find the chat under Shared with me, then continue it in a copy of your own: Chats shared with you covers that side. The share itself, and how the sender updates or stops it, is in Chat sharing and branches.

The page points the way: Open in DataMind Oda with the hint Find it under Shared with me to continue the conversation there., and Get DataMind Oda opens Universe, where you download the app (Get DataMind Oda from Universe).

When the page cannot show the chat

The page has three ways to say it cannot open a copy:

Each screen also offers Go to home.

Note

An inaccessible share looks exactly like one that no longer exists, and the page never shows the share's id back to you. A link reveals nothing about a share you cannot open.

Questions, answered

Why does a shared link say the conversation isn't available?

The share may have been stopped or removed, or it was never shared with you. Ask the person who shared it for access.

Why is there no Try again button on some screens?

Try again appears only when the copy failed to load. A share you cannot open, or a copy in a format the page cannot read, will not change by retrying, so those screens offer only Go to home.

Do I need DataMind Oda to read a shared chat?

No. The link opens in a web browser, and you read the copy and download its files there. DataMind Oda is for continuing the conversation, under Shared with me (Chats shared with you).

Why is a message missing from the copy?

The page keeps only what it can show: a message with nothing displayable is left out, and parts of a message it cannot show are skipped. The copy can hold fewer messages than the chat in Oda does.

Why does an image show as unavailable?

The page could not find that image among the share's files, or its file failed to load, so it shows the dashed Image not available placeholder instead.

Why does a tool call show as failed?

It marks a call that errored in the original chat, and the copy keeps that. The Failed badge deliberately does not use the red error colour: it reports what happened in the conversation, and a shared page cannot retry anything.

Why can't I open a tool call?

A card can be expanded only when the copy recorded an input or output for the call. When nothing was recorded, there is nothing to show, so the card stays a plain row.

Why is a file shown without a size?

The copy did not record a size for that file, so the page leaves the size out. The file can still be downloaded.

Can I open a shared chat on a phone?

Yes. The shared page is available on small screens, so a link opens on a phone as well. On narrow screens the page hides user avatars, and each Download button carries the file's name for screen readers.
