Models and providers

Settings > Models is where you manage the providers Oda reaches models through: the directory that ships with Oda, the providers you add yourself, their keys and their model lists. Open it to connect a new service, replace a key, or correct a provider that stopped working.

Add a provider

  1. Open Settings and choose Models.
  2. Choose Add provider. There are two ways to add one:
    • Pick a service from the directory that ships with Oda. The directory describes more than 30 services, each ready to set up before you use it.
    • Add a custom provider for a service the directory does not cover. Give it a Provider ID (the id Oda files it under), a display name, its API address, one of the supported protocols and its models.
  3. Save the change. A short confirmation names the provider you saved.

Every provider on the page carries two actions, Edit <provider> and Delete <provider>, both named after the provider, and a short state:

Fill in a provider's settings

To change an existing provider, choose Edit <provider>, adjust what you need and save the change.

Store and replace the key

Read or enter a provider's model list

  1. In the provider's model list, choose Get available models. Oda reads the list from the provider's address.
  2. A dialog opens with the models the provider reports. Search it, tick what you want, then choose Add selected. Select all ticks the whole list, and Clear selection empties the ticks.

Remove a provider

  1. On the provider's row, choose Delete <provider>.
  2. A confirmation names the provider and says what goes with it. Confirm to remove it, or cancel to keep everything.

When a provider has a problem

Other problems you meet in Oda are listed in Updates and troubleshooting.

Questions, answered

What are the two ways to add a provider?

Pick one from the directory that ships with Oda, or add a custom provider for a service the directory does not cover. A custom provider needs its own id, an address, a protocol and its models.

Which API protocol should I choose?

Choose the shape the service you connect speaks. OpenAI Chat Completions is the default and fits most services, while OpenAI Responses and Anthropic Messages cover services that speak those shapes.

What does API key missing mean?

No key is stored for that provider yet. You can still keep the provider and read its model list, and a request that needs the key fails until you add one.

How do I replace a stored key?

Choose Edit <provider> and type the new key over the stored one; the field reads Configured - enter a new value to replace. An empty field keeps the stored key, so clearing it removes nothing.

Does deleting a provider delete its stored key?

It depends on where the key is managed. A key Oda manages on the page is removed with the provider; when the service's credentials are managed elsewhere, they are kept. The confirmation tells you which case you are in before anything is removed.

How do I add several models at once?

Choose Get available models, then tick the models you want in the dialog. Select all ticks the whole list, Clear selection empties the ticks, and Add selected adds what is ticked.

What do a model's context window and output limit mean?

The context window is how much the model can hold in one request, and the output limit caps how long one answer may be. Both are set on the model's entry and accept short forms such as 256K or 1M.

Can I add a model the provider does not list?

Yes. Use Add model and fill in the entry by hand: its id, a display name, its context window, the output limit and its input types. A hand-added model is offered like the others.

What is Custom next to a provider's name?

It marks a provider you added yourself, rather than one from the directory. Its id appears in its Edit and Delete labels, which keeps it apart from providers with similar names.

What happens when the catalogue no longer describes a saved model?

Oda marks that provider beside the healthy ones and states the fix on the page: set the protocol the endpoint speaks, or remove the model. An edit that does not fix it is refused without saving.
