Feedback

While you work in a chat in DataMind Oda, you can tell Oda how it is doing: rate a finished reply, or open the feedback dialog to comment on the whole chat. This page covers the rating buttons, the dialog and what happens to what you send.

Note

The rating buttons under replies and the /feedback command are left off in the desktop app and the VS Code extension; both appear in the Oda web app. Chat surfaces and status compares the surfaces.

Rate a reply

  1. Point at a finished reply. Its action row, the row with Copy and the branch action, holds two rating buttons: Good response and Bad response (Like and Dislike).
  2. Click either button. The first click does not save a rating on its own: it opens the Submit feedback dialog for the chat, where the rating is recorded when you click Submit.
  3. Choose a category, add details, or leave both out, then click Submit.
  4. To take a rating back, click the same button again while it is active. It reads Remove rating then, and the rating is removed without opening the dialog; its note goes with it.
  5. To switch to the other rating, click the other button. The dialog opens again, and the new rating replaces the old one when you submit.

A few more things about the buttons:

The feedback dialog

Each chat has one feedback dialog. The rating buttons and /feedback open it, and nothing is recorded until you click Submit.

While a submission is being saved, the draft is frozen, the category chips are disabled and Submit reads Submitting…. On success the dialog closes and a Thanks for your feedback message appears over the message box. If a submission fails, the dialog stays open with your draft kept and the reason shown as a message; you can dismiss the message without closing the dialog.

Comment on the whole chat

Type /feedback with no text, or choose Feedback in the More actions menu at the top of the chat. The same dialog opens to comment on the chat itself, and a submission is recorded against the chat.

/feedback with text records a remark instead. Remarks, and the question of what can leave your computer with a submission, are covered in Feedback and privacy.

What happens to your feedback

Your feedback is recorded with the chat and never joins what the model reads: it adds no tokens and changes no answer. What a submission can release from your computer, and when, is a privacy matter; Feedback and privacy explains it.

Questions, answered

How do I open the feedback dialog?

Click a rating button under a finished reply, type /feedback with no text, or choose Feedback in the More actions menu at the top of the chat.

Why did clicking a rating open a dialog?

The first click on a rating button opens the dialog so you can add a category or a note; the rating is recorded when you click Submit. Clicking a rating you already recorded is different: it takes the rating back without a dialog.

How do I take back a rating?

Click the same button again while it is active; it reads Remove rating and takes the rating back without opening the dialog. Its note goes with it.

Do I have to choose a category or write a note?

No. Every field in the dialog is optional, and submitting an empty form is accepted: it records your feedback with no extra detail.

Can I leave feedback about the chat itself?

Yes. Type /feedback with no text, or choose Feedback in the More actions menu at the top of the chat; the same dialog opens, and a submission is recorded against the chat.

Why can't I rate a reply that stopped early?

Rating buttons appear only under finished replies. A reply that was cut off before it finished is not a finished message, so it carries no rating buttons.

Can I rate a reply from the Trajectory tab?

No. The rating buttons live in the chat view; the Trajectory tab shows the chat's turns and steps, but no feedback controls.

How long can a note be?

Up to 8,192 bytes. A larger note is refused when you submit, with The description is too long; shorten it and submit again; the dialog stays open so you can shorten it and try again.

Why did my change not save?

If a change does not save, Oda reports the reason. The usual messages are:

Does the feedback dialog ever open on its own?

No. It opens only when you click a rating button or ask for it, with /feedback or the Feedback menu row. Oda never opens it for you.
