Stopping Oda and queued messages

Work in DataMind Oda happens in a chat. While Oda works on a task, you can stop the running turn at any time; this page describes what a stop does to the work in progress, to messages that are still waiting, and to a chat you archive while it works.

Stop a running turn

Press Stop in the message box. Oda stops the turn that is running.

What a stop leaves in the chat is covered in Recovering sessions after a crash.

Messages that are still waiting

You can add messages while Oda works: a message either waits as a queued message or joins the running work as steering. Prompts, queue and steering covers both, and how to edit, remove or steer a waiting message.

Stopping does not throw the queue away: messages that were still waiting are kept, and when the stop is through they run in the order you sent them.

Stopping work when you archive a chat

If you archive a chat while it is still working, the running work is stopped, the same way Stop stops a turn. Messages that were still waiting in that chat are dropped: an archived chat does not start new work, so they do not run later. Unarchive the chat to work in it again.

Questions, answered

What happens to the reply Oda was still writing when I stop it?

Oda keeps the part of the reply that had already appeared. The reply stays unfinished, and Oda does not continue it.

Does Stop undo the work Oda has already finished?

No. Stop cancels what is still running or waiting; it does not roll back work that is already done, such as a file Oda saved or a command that finished. To restore file changes, use Rewind to here with Restore files Oda changed after this message; see Conversation branches.

Does stopping one chat stop my other chats?

No. Stop acts on the chat you press it in; work running in other chats continues.

Can I carry on with the task after stopping?

Yes. The chat stays open and keeps its history; send a new message to carry on. If you still need something that had not started, ask for it again.

Does Stop all also stop the chat?

No. Stop all in the Activity tab stops the background work listed there, not the turn in the conversation; press Stop in the message box for the turn.

If I archive a chat while Oda is working, what happens?

The running work is stopped, the same way Stop stops a turn. Messages that were still waiting in that chat do not run later, because an archived chat does not start new work. Unarchive the chat to work in it again.
