Settings > Skills shows the skills on this computer: where each one comes from, what it does, and the controls to add a skill, change it, or bring back one you deleted. The page is part of the DataMind Oda desktop app and of Oda in VS Code; the browser does not show it. How skills run in chats is on Skills in chat.
The list covers every skill this computer knows, grouped by where it comes from. Each row carries the / command that runs the skill (/), its origin label, a tag when the skill is limited (Only with /name or Not in the / menu), the description, and the path of the skill's file.
| Label | Where the skill comes from |
|---|---|
| Your skill | Your own skills folder. |
| Shared skill | A shared skills location on this computer. |
Project: <folder> | The project you work in; the folder's name is shown after the label. |
| Custom folder | A custom skills folder on this computer. |
| Built in | Skills that come with DataMind Oda. |
| Other | Any other source. |
Only Your skill rows are editable: they carry the … menu, and skills from the other origins are read-only in this list.
The page reads the list again when you open the section, when you return to the window, and after every change made here, so it keeps up with skills saved in chats or edited in the folder. While it opens, the list reads Loading skills…. When no skills are in it, it reads No skills yet.
The toolbar holds three controls:
. zip file or a link, and shows a preview of exactly what will be saved before anything is written. Import a skill covers the dialog.Skills also arrive from chats, where Oda saves what you agree to: see Create and install skills.
<name>).A skill keeps its name: A skill cannot be renamed. To use a different name, create a new skill.
Delete {name}? and explains: The skill folder and all of its files are removed from your skills folder. You can bring the skill back from Recently deleted. Confirm with Delete, or keep the skill with Cancel.Deleted {time}) and two actions: History and Restore.Restored {name}.Your own skills are saved in the app's skills folder, and the toolbar shows where: Your skills are saved in {path}. Open skills folder opens it in your file manager; when the app cannot open folders on this computer, it answers This computer cannot open folders from the app.
SKILL. md file inside, or a single . md file; Skill files and discovery covers the layout. The label on its row: Your skill is your own skills folder, Shared skill is a shared location on this computer, Project: <folder> is the project you work in, Custom folder is a custom skills folder, Built in covers the skills that ship with DataMind Oda, and Other is any other source. Only your own skills can be changed here; the other origins are read-only in this list.
/ <name> still runs it./ menu, and Oda can still load it when a task fits. Both are set in the skill's file; Skill files and discovery covers the keys.
Skill names are unique in your skills folder. Saving New skill under a name you already use is refused with A skill named "<name>" already exists in your skills folder. Choose another name, edit the existing skill instead, or replace it from Import.
Yes. New skill writes one from a form, and Import brings one in from a folder, a . file or a link. An import shows a preview of exactly which files will be saved, and nothing is written until you install.
A preview is kept for a limited time. If it has expired when you install, the app says The preview expired. Run Preview again, then install.
Could not load the skills? The app could not read the skills list. Choose Retry to try again. If the list had loaded before, the app keeps showing the previous list instead of the error.
Could not complete the change: <message> mean?An action in the list did not go through, and the text after the colon names the reason. Try the action again; if the same message comes back, keep it and contact your DataMind OS administrator, as Updates and troubleshooting describes.
The section is part of the desktop app and of Oda in VS Code. In the browser, Oda shows only the Settings pages that are available in every app, so skills are managed in the desktop app.
Some computers do not allow the app to open folders. Open skills folder then answers This computer cannot open folders from the app.; the folder itself is unchanged, and you can open it in your file manager yourself.
The page reads the list again when you open the section, when you return to the window, and after every change made here, so a saved skill should appear on its own. If it never appears, check that the save finished in the chat.
