Shared with me

When someone shares a chat with you from DataMind Oda, it arrives as a read-only copy under Shared with me in your sidebar. You can read it, download the files it carries, and continue the work in a chat of your own. To share a chat you own, see Share a chat.

The Shared with me list

The section sits in the sidebar between Pinned and your workspaces. It appears only when something is shared with you. The column itself is covered in Chats and workspaces in the sidebar.

Read a chat shared with you

  1. Open the chat's row under Shared with me.
  2. The copy opens marked Read-only: you can read it and download its files, but you cannot add messages to it.

A shared chat is a copy, not a live view: it holds the conversation as it was when the sender shared or updated it, and it never follows the sender's chat on its own.

What the copy holds:

When a shared chat will not open

Oda names the reason:

Download a file from the copy

  1. Find the file in the shared copy.
  2. Choose Download beside it. The button carries the file's name: Download {name}.

Continue the work in your own Oda

  1. In the shared copy, choose Continue in my Oda. While Oda prepares the copy, the button reads Starting….
  2. Choose where the copy should live: the workspace that was open when you opened the share (Current workspace · {name}), another of your workspaces, or Choose folder… to pick a folder yourself.

Oda saves the share's files into that folder and opens a new chat of your own, titled with the share title. How Oda works inside the folder you pick is covered in Choosing folders.

Questions, answered

Why is Shared with me missing from my sidebar?

The section appears only when at least one chat has been shared with you. If your sidebar is folded to its icon strip, choose the Shared with me icon to open the column again.

Does the list update when someone shares a new chat with me?

Yes. Oda keeps the list up to date by itself, so a new share appears without a restart.

Can I write in a chat shared with me?

No. The copy is read-only, marked Read-only. You can read it and download its files, but you cannot add messages. To carry the work on, continue it in your own Oda.

How do I see who shared a chat with me?

The row names the person who shared it, and hovering it shows the card Shared by {name}.

What does Failed mean on a step in a shared chat?

The sender's run had a tool step that failed, and the copy keeps it tagged Failed. Expand the card to read its Input and Output.

Where do downloaded files go?

Into your Downloads folder, and Oda confirms Saved to {path}. If a file with that name is already there, the download gets a fresh name such as report (2).xlsx; nothing is replaced.

Which folder does Continue in my Oda use?

You choose each time. The menu leads with the workspace that was open when you opened the share (Current workspace · {name}), then your other workspaces, then Choose folder… to pick a folder yourself.

What happens to the shared copy when I continue a chat?

Nothing. Continuing makes your own copy: the conversation and its files go into a chat of yours, and the shared copy and the sender's chat stay as they are.

Why does a shared chat say it was shared from a newer version?

The copy was made with a newer version of DataMind Oda than the one you run, so Oda cannot open it. Update DataMind Oda, then open the copy again.

Does a shared chat keep up with the sender's changes?

No. A share holds the conversation as it was when the sender shared or updated it. To bring in newer messages and files, the sender updates the share: see Share a chat.
