Failure alerts send a message to a notification channel when a run of one of your workflows fails or is stopped. Set them up for workflows whose loads you cannot afford to miss.
Failure alerts send through notification channels, and a channel must exist before you can use them. Channels are added in Admin > Notifications, see Notifications. Until one is listed, the bell on a workflow card stays disabled, and its tooltip reads Set up notification channels in Admin first.
The button stays greyed out until you change something. If a save fails, a toast reports Failed to save alerts and nothing is stored.
The Notification channels section lists the channels set up in Admin > Notifications, each with its name and type: Email, Slack, Discord or Google Chat. A search box appears when there are more than six channels. If the workflow already has alerts, its channels are listed first and the rest appear under Other channels.
An Email alert goes to DataMind OS users. Pick them by name or email, and use Selected only, Select all and Clear to manage the list. An Email channel needs at least one recipient before you can save it; until you pick one, the window shows Pick at least one recipient. Slack, Discord and Google Chat channels post to the destination set up in Admin > Notifications, so there are no recipients to pick. Each workflow keeps its own recipients for each channel, so changing one workflow's alert never changes another's.
Changes stay pending until you save. Each pending change is tagged Adding or Removing, and the footer shows Unsaved changes with a Revert button.
To stop one channel, untick it and click Save. To stop every channel for the workflow:
Remove alerts clears every channel and recipient for the workflow. The confirmation reads "This workflow will stop sending notifications to every channel. This action cannot be undone." To alert again, you choose them again.
A run triggers an alert when its status is Failed, Aborted or Running Error. A run you stop with Stop ends as Aborted, so it alerts too. To find out why a run failed, see Monitor and fix a run.
Each Email message lists every failed run in a table with the columns ID, Workflow Name, Metadata ID, Status, Start Date, End Date and Error. Its subject counts the failed runs, for example Job Failure Alert - 2 Failed Jobs, or Job Failure Alert - 1 Failed Job for a single run. Slack, Discord and Google Chat messages report the failed runs in the channel.
Inactive channels never send. A run whose channels are all inactive is not delivered, and every off channel records a Failed entry on the Execution tab that names it.
If nothing was sent in the period, the tab shows No alert notifications in this period. For the full log across the platform, see Audit, sign-in and notification logs.
Click the bell on the Workflows toolbar. Its tooltip reads Alerts only, and the list shows only workflows with alerts. Click it again, tooltip Show all workflows, to show every workflow. Each card with alerts shows a bell and the number of active channels that will send.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Notification channels | Each ticked channel receives a message when a run of this workflow fails or is stopped. | None ticked, so no alerts |
| Email recipients | The DataMind OS users who receive the alert through an Email channel. | None picked. At least one is required. |
For the full list, see Workflow permissions.
No channel is set up, or you cannot see notification channels. Ask an administrator to add a channel in Admin > Notifications, or to give you View Notifications.
Probably not. Failure checks run every 30 minutes, so a message can arrive up to about 30 minutes after the run ends.
Yes. A run you stop with Stop ends as Aborted, and aborted runs alert like failed ones.
Not necessarily. Each channel gets one message per check, and that message lists every failed run the check found. Failures found in different checks come in separate messages.
Check that the channel is still active in Admin > Notifications. Inactive channels never send, and the Execution tab records a Failed entry that names the channel when a run is not delivered.
No. Only runs that ended in the last 24 hours are alerted, so older failures are not sent.
The button stays disabled until you change something. In the Email recipients window, Add channel and Done stay disabled until you pick at least one recipient, and the window shows Pick at least one recipient.
No. Email alerts go only to DataMind OS users. For a team room, use a Slack, Discord or Google Chat channel.
The tab needs View Notification Logs. Without it, the alerts window shows only the Alert tab.
No. Each run is alerted once. A run is tried again only when none of its channels delivers the message.
Nothing was sent for that run, because the workflow has no alert recipients at all; the row reads No alert recipients configured. Set up an alert on the workflow if you expect messages.
The window keeps every saved address while it is selected, even when it no longer matches an active user, so you can see what the alert still sends to. Untick the address, click Done, then Save.
