Static table data mapping

Data Mapping is the last step of the Static table wizard, and it is where you keep the rows of a deployed table up to date: add, edit and remove rows, reload them, load them from an Excel file, and fill them with AI.

Before the grid opens

The step needs a deployed table. Until you deploy it, it shows Table Not Deployed instead of the grid, with "Deploy this table to access data mapping. Deployment creates the table in the warehouse with your current column configuration." Click Deploy on the step, or use the deploy banner on the Settings tab; see Static table settings.

A table without a primary key cannot be deployed: the step shows Primary Key Required with "This table must have at least one primary key column before it can be deployed. Define a primary key in the Columns tab to continue." and a Go to Columns shortcut; see Static table columns.

The row grid

The toolbar

ButtonWhat it does
Add new rowAdds an empty row to fill in. It is saved when you click Apply.
Remove selected rowsMarks the selected rows as deleted. It stays disabled until you select at least one row, and it is saved when you click Apply.
Refresh data from sourceReloads the rows of the table. While it runs you see Refreshing data from source...; when it finishes, Data synchronized successfully; on failure, Sync Failed with "Failed to synchronize data. Please try again."
Upload Excel file (replaces all data)Replaces every existing row with the rows of the file. It accepts Excel only and takes effect straight away, so you do not click Apply after it.
Export dataDownloads every row under the current filters, not only the page on screen.
Fill or add rows with AIOpens AI Data Assistant.
DeletedAppears with a count once the table has deleted rows; shows only those rows.
UnmappedAppears while the table has text columns that can be checked; shows only the rows that hold no value in them.
Warning

An Excel upload marks every existing row as deleted. Only the rows in the file stay active, and the previous rows remain viewable under Deleted until you purge them. Check the file before you click Upload & Replace in the Replace All Data with Excel? dialog.

The dictionary mapping step uses the same row tools; see Dictionary data mapping.

Add and edit rows

  1. Click Add new row and fill in the cells, or click a cell of an existing row and type the new value. You can also paste content into the grid to create rows.
  2. Fill every PK column on every row you want to save. Your own columns accept edits, but a PK column can be filled only on a row you have just added; on a saved row it identifies the row and stays read-only.
  3. Click Apply to save every row you touched, on this page and on any other. The grid reloads and you see Mapping data saved successfully.

Things to know:

Remove rows and purge them

Removing a row marks it as deleted; it stays in the table until you remove it permanently.

  1. Select the rows and click Remove selected rows. Rows you added but have not saved are removed at once; the rest are flagged as deleted and tinted red.
  2. Click Apply to save the removal.
  3. To see the flagged rows, turn on Deleted. The toggle appears with a count of them and shows only those rows.
  4. To remove them for good, click Remove All and confirm in Remove All Deleted Rows?. You see Deleted rows removed permanently.; on failure, Failed to remove deleted rows. Please try again.
Warning

Remove All cannot be undone. Until you use it, the deleted rows stay in the table and remain viewable under Deleted.

Fill rows with AI

  1. Click Fill or add rows with AI to open AI Data Assistant.
  2. Select the rows the assistant should fill, or select none to have it add new rows.
  3. Describe what you want, then click Generate.
  4. The results appear in the grid as cell changes or new rows. Check them, then click Apply to save.

Who can change the rows

Changing mapping rows and uploading files needs Add/Modify Warehouse Objects. See Warehouse permissions and row-level security.

Questions, answered

Why can't I see the table's Key or Update DateTime column?

They are hidden by default. Open the grid's column visibility menu and switch them on. These audit columns stay out of Excel downloads even when you show them.

Why is a row tinted red?

It is flagged as deleted: either you removed it and have not saved the change yet, or the removal is saved and the row shows under Deleted. The tint is not an error. To drop an unsaved removal, click Revert.

What happens to a row I just added if I remove it?

It is removed at once. There is no saved row behind it yet, so it does not get a delete flag and does not appear under Deleted.

My static table has no source system. What does Refresh data from source do?

It reloads the rows of the table itself. Use it when the grid looks out of date; while it runs you see Refreshing data from source..., and when it finishes, Data synchronized successfully.

Why is a column missing from the file I exported?

Export data leaves out foreign key columns and the hidden system columns, such as Update DateTime and Security Labels; column comments are included. The download covers every row under the current filters, not only the page on screen.

What does AI fill do when I select no rows?

It adds new rows from your description. With rows selected, it fills those rows instead. Either way, the results are saved only when you click Apply.

Do I have to save each page of rows separately?

No. Apply saves every row you touched, on this page and on any other page you edited. You do not save page by page.

What does Revert discard on this step?

Everything you changed in Data Mapping since your last save: edited cells, rows you added and removals you have not applied. You see Changes Reverted with "All changes in the mapping tab have been reset." Other steps are not affected.

Why is Remove selected rows greyed out?

It turns on once at least one row is selected. With no selection there is nothing to remove.
