Table transformations
The Transformations tab of a Dimension or Fact table lists the transformations that load the table. Use it to run one, switch its schedule on or off, open a copy, check its details or delete it. To build a transformation first, see Build, test and finalize a transformation.
What the tab shows
- Cards are grouped under their source system, sorted A to Z, with a number badge next to each group name. A transformation without a source system falls under Other, last, and the cards flow into one to four columns to fit the window.
- The top of the tab carries a count, such as 2 transformations, and Add Transformation, which opens a new transformation window with the table already chosen. Transformation general settings covers that window.
- Each card shows the transformation's name, its pattern and, where one applies, a status badge: Pending for a transformation that is not finalized yet, Skipped for a finalized one whose schedule is off. Warehouse workspace tour explains both badges.
- Point at a card to reveal its actions on the right: Run transformation, Enable schedule or Disable schedule, Duplicate transformation, View details and Delete transformation. Run, schedule and duplicate appear only once the transformation is finalized; View details and Delete transformation are always there.
- Click a card, or press Enter or Space on it, to open the transformation window.
- A table that has no transformations yet shows "No transformations configured for this table." and an Add Transformation button.
Run a transformation
- Open the Dimension or Fact table and go to Transformations.
- Point at the transformation's card and click Run transformation.
- In Execute Transformation, check the date and time, set any values under Run Parameters, then click Execute.
- While the request is going out, Execute reads Executing... and the window stays open; Cancel and Execute are both disabled until it returns.
- When the run starts, the window switches to the Settings tab, and the run appears under Transformation Runs. Dimension and fact settings follows that list; to stop a running run, use its stop control there, as described in Deploy, run, truncate and monitor tables.
If the run cannot start, the window states the reason under the buttons; when no reason comes back, it reads Failed to execute transformation. Fix the cause, then click Execute again.
Switch the schedule on or off
- Point at a finalized transformation's card and click the power button. Its tooltip reads Enable schedule or Disable schedule, depending on the current state.
- The change saves straight away, with nothing else to press. The button is disabled while the change is being saved.
- Turning the schedule off marks the transformation Skipped, so workflow runs skip it. This is the same Schedule as on the transformation's General step; Transformation general settings describes what a schedule does.
Duplicate a transformation
Duplicate transformation opens a copy of the transformation in a new window, with the same configuration. Give the copy a new Suffix so its name is unique, then save it. Transformation general settings covers the copy and its suffix rules.
Delete a transformation
- Point at the card and click Delete transformation.
- In Delete transformation, read the line "Are you sure you want to delete "{name}"? This action cannot be undone." and confirm with Delete.
- A Transformation deleted message confirms, the card leaves the list, and any open window of that transformation closes.
If the delete fails, an Error message names the reason; when no reason comes back, it reads Failed to delete transformation. Troubleshooting lists the messages that can stop Warehouse actions.
Questions, answered
Where do I see a run after I start it?
The window switches to the Settings tab, and the run appears under Transformation Runs there, reloading every two seconds while it is running. To stop the run, use the stop control on its row, as described in Deploy, run, truncate and monitor tables.
What date does a run use?
Execute Transformation starts on yesterday's date. Change the date on the calendar or the time under Select Time before you click Execute.
Do I need to save after switching the schedule?
No. The schedule button saves the change straight away, with nothing else to press. The button is disabled while the change is being saved.
Can I run a transformation whose schedule is off?
Yes. A Skipped badge only means that workflow runs skip the transformation while its schedule is off. You can still start it yourself with Run transformation on its card.
What does Duplicate transformation do?
It opens a copy of the transformation in a new window, with the same configuration. Set a new Suffix in the copy and save it, so its name is unique. Transformation general settings covers the copy in full.
What happens when I delete a transformation?
It is removed for good once you confirm Delete; the dialog states that the action cannot be undone. A Transformation deleted message confirms, the card leaves the list, and any open window of that transformation closes. If the delete fails, an Error message names the reason.
Why does the tab say "No transformations configured for this table."?
No transformation exists for the table yet. Click Add Transformation to start one. Build, test and finalize a transformation walks through the whole flow.
Why did my run fail with "Failed to execute transformation"?
The run could not start and no detailed reason came back. When the server sends a reason, the window shows it instead. Read the message, fix the cause, then click Execute again. Troubleshooting collects the messages that can stop Warehouse actions.
Why can't I see the buttons on a card?
The actions appear when you point at a card. Move the pointer over the transformation's row and its run, schedule, duplicate, details and delete buttons appear on the right.
