The Settings tab of a Dimension or Fact table is where the table is deployed and kept running. Open it to deploy the table, read its statistics, remove the data of one source system with Truncate, and follow the transformation runs that load the table. Static tables have a tab like this too; see Static table settings.
The Settings tab fills in only after the table exists and is deployed. Until then it explains what is missing.
No statistics and no runs appear until the table is deployed, and Refresh stays greyed out.
Deploying creates the table in the warehouse from its current configuration.
| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Table deployed successfully, with The table has been deployed to the warehouse | The table is in the warehouse. Statistics and runs start loading, and Preview unlocks. |
| Table partially deployed | Only part of the deployment succeeded. The line under the title names the problem. |
| Table deployment failed, with The table could not be deployed., or Failed to deploy table | The table was not deployed. Read the message, fix the problem, then click Deploy again. |
You can also deploy from the tree's right-click menu. Deploy, run, truncate and monitor tables covers that route and the other day-to-day actions. Troubleshooting lists the messages that can stop a deployment.
Above the other areas sits the statistics strip, titled Dimension Statistics or Fact Statistics. Three cards summarise the stored table:
A card shows - while its value is not available.
The strip also carries the actions:
Truncate removes the stored data of one source system. The table itself stays.
The target options are:
| Truncate Target | What it clears |
|---|---|
| Main | The current (main) table data |
| History | The historical (versioned) data |
| All | Both main and history data |
Details along the way:
Truncation removes data for good. The confirmation names the number of partitions and the source system, and states that the action cannot be undone.
When the truncation finishes, you see Partitions truncated successfully, with N partition(s) have been truncated. If it fails, you see Failed to truncate partitions; read the message and try again.
Under the statistics strip, Transformation Runs lists the production runs that write into the table.
When you run a transformation from the Transformations tab, the popup switches to Settings so the run appears here. To create, schedule and run them, see Table transformations.
The table has not been saved yet. Save the table first, including its General step, then open Settings. For a Dimension the message reads Please save the Dimension table first to view settings; for a Fact the same line names the Fact table.
The table is saved but not yet in the warehouse. Click Deploy on the Settings tab. Until the table is deployed, no statistics and no runs appear here.
Deploy is shown only while the table still needs deploying. Once the table is in the warehouse, the button is hidden.
A summary of the stored table: its size, its row count and its number of partitions. A dash appears while a value is not available. Click Refresh to reload the numbers.
Statistics need a deployed table. Deploy the table first, then click Refresh.
Truncate in the dialog stays disabled until you pick a source system and, where dates are shown, at least one date. If the table has no partitions to target, the dialog says so.
Either no source system is selected yet, or the selected source system has no partition dates on this table. Pick another source system, or check its data. The dates belong to Fact tables; a Dimension that stores history uses a Truncate Target instead.
This list carries production runs only. A test run you started while validating a transformation stays with the transformation.
No production run has written to this table yet. Run one of its transformations from the Transformations tab, and the run appears here.
