An item's details in the lineage map

The details panel opens on the right when you select an item on the lineage map. It shows what DataMind knows about the item, its columns and the items connected to it, and it is where you edit a table or open a Mind, slide deck or DataPrism model.

Open the details panel

  1. Open Lineage and find the item on the map.
  2. Click the item. The panel opens on the right, with the data source name above the item's title.
  3. Click Close panel, or click another item to swap its contents.

The panel starts each item fresh: the column search and the Keys only filter do not carry over from one item to the next.

Edit table appears for editable tables: a Lake table, a Writeback table, and View, Dimension, Fact, Dictionary and Static tables. Open appears for a Mind, slide deck or model. A data source group shows Expand instead, which opens the group's tables on the map.

Search a table's columns

  1. Open a table's details.
  2. Type in the box that reads Search columns or types.... The list narrows to the columns whose name or type matches.
  3. Click Keys only (N) to keep only key columns. Click it again to show every column.

A key column carries a badge next to its name: PK for a primary key, FK for a foreign key, and PK · FK when a column is both.

When you pick a column result in the map search, the panel highlights that column and scrolls the list to it. When the table has a database and a schema, their names are shown above the column list, in the form database · schema.

If the table's columns are not loaded yet, the section reads No schema available, with Column metadata has not been loaded for this table yet. under it. A search that finds nothing reads No columns match your search.

See related items

Related items appears when the item has connections on the map. The heading counts them, as in 3 connected items in this lineage, and under it a small preview draws the map around the item.

The preview is read-only: you cannot drag, zoom or pan inside it. To explore the same items with full controls, use Open in Focus, described in Explore and trace lineage. If a preview cannot be drawn for an item, it reads Lineage preview unavailable.

What the numbers and labels mean

Questions, answered

What do PK and FK mean next to a column?

They mark key columns: PK is a primary key, FK is a foreign key, and PK · FK means a column is both. Click Keys only to keep only these columns in the list.

Why did my column search reset when I selected another item?

Search columns or types... and Keys only apply to the item that is open. When you select another item, the panel starts that item fresh with its full column list.

Why does a table show "No schema available"?

DataMind has not loaded the table's columns yet, so the panel cannot list them. The line under the heading reads Column metadata has not been loaded for this table yet. The rest of the item's details still work. For other messages, see Observability troubleshooting.

What does "Lineage preview unavailable." mean?

The panel could not draw the small preview of the map under Related items for this item. Click Open in Focus to see the item's lineage on the full map.

Can I drag or zoom the preview?

No. The preview is read-only: you cannot drag, zoom or pan inside it. To explore the same items with full controls, use Open in Focus.

What does the number on a line between two items mean?

It is the number of table links folded into that one line, for example 4 tables. The count appears only when two or more links meet there.

What do None and Unknown mean on a Mind or a slide deck?

They are shown when a detail is missing. A Mind with no owner role shows None under Owner role, and a slide deck with no workspace to show displays Unknown under Workspace.

Why is there no Edit table button on some items?

Edit table appears only for editable tables: a Lake table, a Writeback table, and View, Dimension, Fact, Dictionary and Static tables. A Mind, slide deck or DataPrism model shows Open instead, and a data source group shows Expand. Open one of the group's tables to edit it.

What does "Uses N tables" count?

The tables that feed the item on the map, listed under the label, so you can see which tables a Mind, slide deck or model reads.

How do I close the details panel?

Click Close panel in the panel header. Selecting another item swaps the panel's contents instead of closing it.
