Connect SAP HANA

The SAP HANA source reads tables from an SAP HANA database into the Lake. Use this page to fill in each field of the SAP HANA form. The steps shared by every SQL engine are on Connect a SQL database.

Prerequisites

Add the source

  1. Open Lake and click Add datasource, or open the New menu in the toolbar above the tree.
  2. Choose SAP HANA in the picker.
  3. Fill in the General, Connection and Datetime steps as described below.
  4. Click Add.

Connection settings

General step

Name (Mandatory)

Code (Mandatory)

Folder (Optional)

Connection step: Address

Paste connection string (Optional)

Host (Mandatory)

Port (Mandatory)

Database (Optional)

Connection step: Authentication

Username (Mandatory)

Password (Mandatory)

Connection step: Security

Timezones and datetime values explains both settings in full.

Test and save

  1. On the Connection step, click Test connection. The button reads Testing… while it runs.
  2. Connection test passed means DataMind reached the database and signed in. Connection test failed shows the server's message with a copy button; fix the settings and test again.
  3. On Datetime, check the summary: Name, Server, Database (or All databases), Username and Security.
  4. Click Add. Then import its tables.

The test is optional and never saves the source. To edit or duplicate the source later, see Connect a SQL database.

Questions, answered

Why does each SAP HANA schema show as a database with one schema named default?

The Lake shows each SAP HANA schema as a database with a single schema called default, and the tables sit under it. A table you import from schema SALES is read from SALES on the server.

Which schemas does the Lake list?

The schemas on which the source user holds privileges. Schemas whose name starts with an underscore are not listed. Grant the user read access to another schema to see it.

Are views listed?

No. The SAP HANA source lists tables, both row and column tables. Views are not offered for import.

Which port do I enter for a tenant database?

The SQL port of that tenant database. The form starts on 30015; your SAP HANA administrator can confirm the port of each tenant. Leave Database empty: the port alone decides which tenant database the source reads.

Which sync types can an SAP HANA table use?

The same sync types as the other SQL sources, with no SAP HANA-specific restriction. Sync types explains each one.

Can I send data back to SAP HANA?

No. SAP HANA is a source only and is not offered as a Writeback destination. The destinations are listed on Add and manage destinations.
