In-app notifications

DataMind OS reports what just happened with small messages that pop up over your work, such as a save being confirmed or an action failing. Use this page when a message appears and you want to read it, copy it or dismiss it.

How messages behave

Read a long message in full

  1. When a message is too long to fit, it is cut off after a few lines and shows Tap to read full message.
  2. Click it to open the full text in its own window. The card closes as the window opens.
  3. Click Copy to copy the text. The button then reads Copied!.
  4. Click Close when you are done; clicking outside the window closes it too.

Some messages open their own details window instead of the full-text view.

Dismiss a message

When a form cannot be saved

If a form cannot be saved, a Validation Error message appears and names the first problem it found. Fix the field it names (it is marked on the form as well), then submit again.

The message lists for signing in, your account and navigation are in Troubleshooting.

Questions, answered

How long does a message stay on screen?

It depends on the message: successes clear quickly, while errors and warnings stay longer so you can read them. Pointing at a message pauses its progress line, and you can dismiss any message yourself before it clears.

Why did an earlier message disappear before I read it?

Only one message is shown at a time, and a new message replaces the one before it. There is no list of past messages, so copy anything you still need while it is on screen.

How do I read a message that is cut off?

Click Tap to read full message to open the full text in its own window, then use Copy or Close there.

How do I copy a message?

Every message has a copy button. In the full-text window, use Copy; it reads Copied! right after you click it.

How do I dismiss a message?

Click the close icon, swipe or drag the message to the right, or drag it downwards. Escape dismisses it from the keyboard. An upward drag does not dismiss it.

Can I use the keyboard with messages?

Yes. Press F8 to jump to the notifications area; the message and its controls are then within keyboard reach. Press Escape to dismiss the message.

Why do identical errors not stack up?

When the same error is raised again while its message is still on screen, it updates that message instead of adding a second copy.

I pressed Save and saw a Validation Error. What do I do?

The form was not saved. The message names the first problem it found; fix the field it names (it is marked on the form too) and submit again.

Where are the notices inside a Minds chat explained?

In Minds. Notices shown inside a conversation, such as a stopped answer or a message that was not sent, are covered there. This page covers the messages that pop up over your work.

Will my screen reader announce messages?

Yes. Error and warning messages are announced as soon as they appear; other messages are announced when your screen reader is free.
