When DataMind OS needs a decision from you, or wants to show you something in full, it opens a dialog over the page. This page explains how dialogs, side panels and confirmations behave: how they open and close, what their buttons mean, and how your unsaved work is protected.
Floating windows that open a table or an editor over the page are a separate tool: Popup windows covers them, and Find your way around shows where their picker lives in the sidebar.
A dialog opens in the middle of the screen, over the page you were on. On a phone it usually opens as a sheet that rises from the bottom of the screen.
To close a dialog:
While a dialog is open, the page behind it dims, and your keyboard acts on the dialog. When it closes, the focus returns to where it was.
Actions that change or delete data ask first. The dialog names the step, says what will happen, and waits for you to choose.
A short strip at the top names the kind of step:
The pair is usually Save & Continue and Cancel; when the dialog also offers to carry on without keeping the changes, that choice reads Discard & Continue.
While the change runs, its button shows a spinner with Processing… or Saving…, and both buttons are disabled. If it fails, the dialog stays open and shows the message, so you can read it and try again.
The exact question belongs to the feature you are in; this page covers how the dialog behaves. When an action finishes, a message reports the result; see In-app notifications.
Forms and details often slide in from the right side of the screen instead of opening in the middle.
When a screen holds edits that are not saved yet, a bar appears along the bottom:
Save your work or discard to continue. When you run, test or sync something, the dialog may ask when to do it:
While the action runs, its button shows a spinner with the working label, and both buttons are disabled.
When an error message is too long for the place it sits in, it opens in an Error Details window with a copy button. Press Escape to close the details first; a dialog behind them stays open.
A table, chart or diagram in a DataPrism report can open in a large viewer that covers the screen. On a phone the viewer fills the screen. Close it with the X, as with any other dialog.
Click the round X in its top corner, press Escape, or click outside it where that is allowed. With more than one open, they close one at a time: the one on top goes first.
The one on top. Each Escape closes a single layer, so the dialog underneath stays until you close it too.
No. It runs the dialog's default action only when the dialog offers one and your focus is not in a text field, a button or a link; in those places the key belongs to the control you are using.
The dialog holds its keys while an action is in flight, so a half-finished change cannot be dismissed by accident. Its buttons are disabled too, and both come back when the run finishes.
Sometimes. Many dialogs close when you click outside, but a confirmation can be set to keep you inside until you pick Cancel or the action; in that case, clicking outside does nothing.
Click the X in its corner, announced as Close drawer. A sheet with a handle can be dragged towards the screen edge instead. If the panel holds unsaved edits, it checks with you first.
A screen you are working on holds edits that are not saved yet. Click Save to store them, or Cancel to discard them and carry on.
The label is held until the bar slides away, so it never flips back to Save at the last moment of a save. When the bar is gone, the save is done.
The strip names the step: Delete, Truncate or Abort for actions that delete or stop something, Warning for other changes that need care, and Confirm, Information or Success for the rest.
The dialog keeps your keyboard to itself while it is open, so nothing behind it changes by accident. Close the dialog to carry on with the page.
